|
|
Hello,
I've set everything up regarding Abyss Web Server (which is a fantastic piece of software) however my server is really slow.
It takes a while to load pages; what needs to be done? Is this a RAM upgrade for the server?
It's not exactly a high-end machine, as i'm only 'playing around', but i would like to make access to the server faster.
Thank you! |

What specifications are the server? Do you use any server side languages (PHP etc)? What scripts do you run on any server side languages? Do you use MySQL? _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

Yeah, PHP version 5.1.4 is installed, and PHP is used.
MySQL is also installed (and running).
The spec (according to CPU-Z):
AMD K6-2 Processor: 450MHz;
SD RAM: 64 Mb Memory;
AGP 2x Onboard Graphics.
Thank you for your reply! |

450MHz is a little slow for MySQL and you will notice considerable slow down when you try to run forums and you get many requests a second. More RAM will definately help. 64MB is alittle low to run a "fast" server. I recommend at least 256 or more if you can. Even another 64MB will increase the speed somewhat.
Abyss will happliy run on a 33MHz processor, so its PHP and MySQL thats slowing it down. Static (HTML) pages should be relativly fast. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

My sites run on a Celeron 600 mHz with 96 MB memory. You can surf them like crazy if you want to test how quick the machine is. :)
It seems to work well for what it's needed to do. I don't have MySQL installed, though.
My sites:

PHP brings the two dynamic pictures at the bottom
The scripts on the page are all Perl (they're slow because they access outside internet resources before returning content to the browser)

SSI's bring the global theme (you'll notice them in the HTML source)
PHP brings the simple text counter at the bottom
Perl handles the goto.cgi links
Let me know what you think! _________________ Stephen

Thanks for you reaply pkSML, i'm going to try and get the memory to 256Mb, but i might have to consider ditching MySQL.
Thanks. |

The MySQL might be fine once you get the extra RAM. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

My server has 200 MHz, and it's working fine with PHP. MySQL is pretty slow though, about 1-2 sec for each query. That's also why I use SQlite instead of MySQL. |
