Any site that attempts to claim it's pages are protected under the DMCA loses any credibility I may have given it before I even begin reading...

I'm not sure if I should take any sides :S |
I do take sides and I'd rather have Firefox (or Opera) over IE.
In a recent article at PCWorld.com, there are 91 vulnerabilities in IE and 26 in Firefox.
That's according to their research on www.sans.org and www.secunia.com security sites.

Well, MrWiseOne, I'd rather trust a respected security site than a half-wit homepage
made by some Firefox-haters. No browser is 100% safe and if you want to be on the
internet, you have to make a choice...and I'd rather choose for the lesser of the "evils".
It's either that or stay off the internet. |

I am a user of Opera. Currently having the stable 8.5 on my pc, and the prev1 and 2 of version 9. Also have firefox and IE.
I use them for testing my website. And using Opera the surf on the web.. Opera is great and works perfect. I use it since version 7.5, and I prefer it above Firefox. Because firefox is just to damn slow, to little functions, and more...
BTW. The new widgets and bittorent plugin of the prev2 of v9 are awsome! |

Not as large as yours ;-)
I'm using FF atm since it's too time demanding =P to install another browser but I do prefer IE. |

But your's is 10KB's bigger than mine in size, and 60KB's taller. Plus it provides me with lots of useless information I don't need/care about. It doesn't even get my IP address right! _________________ Olly |

Their credibility is questionable but many of the points raised there are true.
FireFox isn't the best browser out there (just as Linux isn't the best operating system ever made). It has simply been backed by medias and open source zealots. Add to that IE security fears and you get a massive switch and millions of downloads. Opera, which has not the same propaganda machine, is much more technically advanced and standards compliant. Safari (which is restricted to Mac platforms only) is also better than FireFox in its realm. _________________ Support Team

Who cares about what they think anyway? They don't even know that Firefox sould be spelled as Firefox, and not FireFox.
But, of course, there are good alternatives. I'm not an Opera-fan, but I really like Konqueror. Konqueror dosn't work on Windows though... |

Its not what we dont understand, its what you dont understand; ENGLISH.
Seems Linux is not as good as we all thought:
Quote: | Vulnerabilities
Myth - "Windows has more Security Vulnerabilities than Linux/Unix"
Reality - "Between January 2005 and December 2005 there were 5198 reported vulnerabilities: 812 Windows operating system vulnerabilities; 2328 Unix/Linux operating vulnerabilities; and 2058 Multiple operating system vulnerabilities" |
Im glad Im sticking to windows :-) _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

Another MS funded Linux vs Windows study eh?
If you're going to use quotes, sources would be useful. _________________

The comparison is flawed. The 2328 Unix/Linux operating vulnerabilities are counting vulnerabilities found in Linux kernel and those found in open source software which is not part of the kernel but which is usually bundled with it in the so called "Linux distributions".
When we said above that "Linux isn't the best operating system ever made", we were referring to other alternatives which have not profited from the media buzz (as Linux did), namely:
* FreeBSD which has a better internal design in comparison with Linux (and is years ahead of it when it comes to networking speed for example). FreeBSD is powering Yahoo since its debut in 1995 and is used by several heavy traffic sites and systems ( http://www.freebsdsystems.com/chronical-report.php ). FreeBSD was also used by Hotmail (Microsoft took years to migrate it to Windows after buying the free mail service).
* OpenBSD which is the only operating system claiming "Only one remote hole in the default install, in more than 8 years!" http://www.openbsd.org/ .
* Darwin (the core operating system inside MacOS X) which is based on an advanced micro-kernel architecture (resulting of years of research done in the 80s and the 90s - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mach_kernel ) while Linux is using the ol' good architecture of the first UNIX system designed in the early 70s. It's interesting to read that someone expressed the same criticism about Linux back in 1992 when its most up-to-date version was 0.12 (!!): http://www.educ.umu.se/~bjorn/mhonarc-files/obsolete/msg00000.html . The criticism is by Andy Tanenbaum whose book about operating systems design inspired and taught Linus Thorvalds and most of Linux hackers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Tanenbaum . In Darwin, a driver cannot take down the whole system as it is run as a normal application monitored by the kernel. In Linux, drivers run in the kernel space and can do what they want (including executing bad code and crashing your computer - By the way, the same problem affects most other open source UNIX flavors). _________________ Support Team
