I know that there are many threads that address this problem, but I have found no solution in the ones I have looked at.
Now, I am running Windows 98, ZoneAlarm, and have ADSL. When I type in the IP that http://www.aprelium.com/ip/ gives me, I get a router configuration page. However, when I run "winipcfg", I get a different IP (http://192.168.1.2/). This IP alone doesn't work, but when I add the port (http://192.168.1.2:8080/), it does. This address works fine for me, but not for anybody else.
I've tried finding answers in my routers' (ZyXEL P642-ME) manual, but I didn't find anything of substance. I've even tried shutting down ZoneAlarm, but to no avail.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. |

Any IP number above 192.168.0.0 should most likely not work... The number you're getting back "http://192.168.1.2" will work on your local network only... The range of addresses between 192.168.0.0 up to 255.255.255.255 are all only local network addresses...
Your Global IP has to fall under 192.* and cannot be 127.0.0.1 nor can it be localhost...
Are their other PCs at your location? Are you behind a network? Take the number Aprelium gives you as your IP and then go into your router configuration... Try to get your router to *forward* request for your IP to your machine...
I hope you get it to work and if possible please let us know :) _________________ Victor B. Gonzalez

Okay, I filled in a "SUA (Single User Account) Application" on my router configuration page. There were 3 fields. "Application", "Port #", and "Server IP". The "Application" and "Port #" fields were set to "Default" and couldn't be changed. I entered "127.0.0.1" in the "Server IP" field. Is this right? Is this what you were talking about? If so, what IP will the globe use to view my website? |

I would believe you give out the IP to your router and then have your router hunt you down on your network... In other words if on your network your PC is recognized as 192.168.1.2 but your router is recognized as 65.122.142.5 people will have to go through your router to get to your PC...
Simply give out your router IP and have your router forward request to locate you at your local address "192.168.1.2"
Its something like that... I don't have a router but I seen this question asked many times on the forums... Usually when a router is concerned I hear the port forward answer right after...
Do a search on these boards for routers, router, forward, portforward, etc... I am sure you'll be swamped with a lot of suggestions :)
I hope you get it fixed and if you do please let us know :) _________________ Victor B. Gonzalez
