I have my forums all set up and everything, but when I try to LOG ON from anywhere, I get the "Page Cannot be Displayed" message. I have followed TRUSTpunks tutorials, and have everything running, but can not log in as admin from anywhere. Any ideas???

This is a common error with phpBB. You need to login (with the 404 error) but then hit back and refresh, you will be logged in. Click the admin panel at the bottom of the page and then click configuration options. You need to change the 'domain' option.

It should be set to your domain, not IP. If your IP is dynamic and thats what you have entered then that is the problem. You should get a no-ip or similar domain to use.

Hope this helps.

You should be able to get to the admin panel after this method. If not then you will need to reinstall the forum.

Try looking in the config.php file first.

You MUST make sure you use your domain or static IP. If you dont then the forum will not function correctly. Access it from your domain/IP and thats what it will be installed on. You cant install it from localhost and expect it to work on your domain/IP.

Try again and make sure you have this. If you did have this then Im stumped as to what the problem is.

(BTW, sorry if I sounded cocky, its been a long day!)

Ok, I installed it using my INTENAL IP, and it works now for me, my friends can all see it but now they cannot post :( , I guess it is my routers fault.

No you misunderstood, you must use your EXTERNAL IP. Now you can access the admin panel, change it to your EXTERNAL IP.

Yes but your other users will be able to post. You may need to use a proxy or change your HOSTS file (read other topics for that).

no, changing the HOSTS file does NOT make it work, I dont mean to be mean, especially to you but I dont know why people think that that works, all the hosts file does is bind an IP Address to a URL.

For example, if instead of writing "192.168.2.75" (which is my local Ip) I would just type "http://my-url-here.com"

again, changing the hosts file DOES NOT FIX LOOPBACK

Ok, thanks The Inquisistor. Do you know what file to edit to change my Domain back? I cannot log into my admin pannel now!

Sorry you are correct about the HOSTS file, I wasnt thinking straight :-) It does work though but not for what we want it for.

You may have to re-install again. The data is in the MySQL database encrypted (i think its encrypted anyway).
