Hello everyone,

So pretty much, in one whole day.. after all my search and research on here for the right blog software, the right mail server and the right webmail program to interact with the mail server = and all these properly working with

Abyss X1 and Perl support.

I came to a conclusion that Greymatter is the one that's a good blog software. That can work with Abyss/Perl.

What's lacking in GM is, no user signup. Like Nucleus CMS and WordPress (so many themes, addons, plugins, user flexibility, etc) Info for these from -> http://www.opensourcecms.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=144

Then again, the problem with these other blog softwares is, they work better with Apache, or don't work good on win32, or need php and database, etc.

Finally, mail server.. and interoperability with a webmail which will work with Abyss/Perl, AND works well on win32.

hMailserver looks relatively easy to put on, but any webmail that'd work closely with Abyss and would interact good with hMailServer? Hmmm.

Does anyone have answers?
PS: Please don't tell the search thing, cuz I did. 2 days of lurking, and 1 full day of cross-researching ain't enough? :)

Of course a real good CMS/blog IMHO is going to need a scripting langauge (perl/PHP) and a database (MySQL, SQLlite, MSAccess...).

A mail server does not talk to the web server at all.
They don't even say "Hi I'm the Mail server, send all email requests to me."

It's all in the scripts.

hmailserver does have a webmail you can use.

Thanks for the reply.

Did I make it seem like I wanted the mailserver <=> httpd? I'm sorry if I did.
I totally know that it's the webmail/scripts that need to work with the httpd, and it's more like maild -> webmail -> httpd.

But umm, anyway, so hMailServer has a webmail in it? How come I didn't notice it? Is there any special curved way to get to it?

And looks like I'll have to install PHP, and MySQL :-/
Although I hate installing all these. More possibilities of vulns.

There is no real "vulns" when you install PHP and/or MySQL (FYI, hmailserver installs MySQL) its in the scripts that other people right that use PHP/MySQL. Or if you use a password like "password".

Well, thanks for the assurance. But I've had a fair share of MySQL/PHP vulns back in the day.

I'm sure there might be some now as well, but oh well. I'll go with it. :-/

Thanks for your help killdragon.

So, since I don't know where else to go. Here I am.

I host my website on my computer, now I have hmailserver and I want to use hmail-squirrelmail as my webmail. I'm behind a router (Yes, I'm gonna port forward) on a cable connection.. but once or twice a month the IP changes due to modem crashes. So, I use DynSite to update my DNS for new IP changes. How do I handle the IP change for MX records now?

I want to run a webmail on my website.
How do I go about it in doing the MX record, then linking webmail with hmailserver.

Would anyone know?

You don't need a MX record. Most mail servers know how to look up just the A record of your site.

I just setup hmailserver and I configured it—as per the instructions on the site—to use my ISP's SMTP server to send e-mail.

Now, I just need to know how to communicate this information to WordPress. Anyone here have any experience with setting up WordPress for use with hmailserver? Thanks in advance.

Nevermind! I found this WordPress plugin: wpPHPMailer!
http://www.coffee2code.com/archives/2004/06/28/plugin-wpphpmailer/

I don't need hmailserver any more. I'm planning to use WordPress as a CMS, so I'll just use my ISPs SMTP server to send mail. :)

Devileyezz:

Did you have to do anything specific to get Greymatter working correctly?

Thanks!

Search for a tutorial on Gerymatter installation... there's already one here.

Good luck!
