Hello hansolo.
Check http://www.whatismyip.com/ to find out what your IP address is.
You can tell people to use this IP address to connect to your webserver. Also, enable port 80 in ZoneAlarm.
You can get a free subdomain at somewhere like http://freedns.afraid.org/ so people can connect at HanSolo.Afraid.Org or the likes.
Any other questions? |

Abyss Web Server X1 (v 2.0.6)
Copyright © Aprelium Technologies - 2001-2005
A configuration file was created.
You should now browse http://127.0.0.1:9999 to continue with the console access configuration.
-- Default host on port 80 is up and running (Local URL http://127.0.0.1)
Console local URL: http://127.0.0.1:9999
-- Default host on port 80 is up and running (Local URL http://127.0.0.1)
Console local URL: http://127.0.0.1:9999
thats what i got, and i can go to the file on my computer by typing in "127.0.0.1" but i IMed my friends and they say that cannt go to it using my IP |

Are you behind a router?
Have you allowed Abyss internet access (and ability to run as a server) in ZoneAlarm? _________________ Olly |

If you think you have configured ZoneAlarm, but the page still isn't loading, try disabling ZoneAlarm, then trying. Sometimes this'll help. |

I turned all of my router firewalls off, and enabled poet forwarding for port 80. I will try diabling ZoneAlarm. |

Yes. That would work. Most ISPs block the usual ports that servers use. |

I restarted, so try it now. And if the port is 1080 instead of 80 does that mean when you type in http://69.161.200.44 you need to specify port 1080 (http://69.161.200.44:1080)? And can I access my page by typing in my IP? Because when I do that I get my router password promt. |

No. Search the forum for loopback to find out why. _________________

Thanks for all the help Arctic! My server is working now. But it kinda sucks to have to specify the port, so I am going to calll my ISP see if they can unblock port 80. I was wondering how I can set up a domain on my server, I bet there are a bunch of topics out there but could you point me to them? and can I have multiple IPs on my server?
Thanks very much |

http://freedns.afraid.org
Like I said, you can get a free subdomain and set it up that way for like hansolo.afraid.org:yourport or hansolo.afraid.org (redirect).
You can also get a paid domain at GoDaddy.com |

1) Purchase domain name
2) Read Godaddy documentation on how to set up a domain name, or google Godaddy domain setup.
3) Come back and ask questions about anything you have a specific problem with.
Please also consider reading the first link in my signature. _________________

I downloaded FileZilla and was wondering how to setup FTP accounts on my server. And is FileZilla a good program for this or would you recomend another one?
I was also wondering if there would be any way to limit folders bandwidth or just monitor it.
Also, is there any way to get deticated IPs on Abyss?
THANKS |

I'm not sure if FileZilla is a FTP Server...
If it is, you would add accounts, and then the people would connect to their FTP account like this (if they are using Firefox or IE, maybe other browsers):
Start the browser
In the Address Bar, type:
ftp://[username]@[domain.com]
If they are using a client like FileZilla, they add you're IP and Port for the Server Address, and connect.
If it turns out FileZilla isn't a server (I'm not sure), I'd reccomend Cerberus, which is what I use. You can pick up a copy at http://www.cerberusftp.com. Also, there is a topic (http://aprelium.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7353) here that lists different servers.
Cerberus allows you to log connection, user log-in times, total number of transfers, etc.
Hope this helps! |

Filezilla is great. Don't listen to p3. ;-)
You'll need to refer to the FileZilla Server docs. Unfortunatley, I don't know a proper way to work that sort of thing. I never cared about my FTP server much.
Do you mean static vs. dynamic IP? |

I install Cerberus and it seems to be a really good program. i made a user named test with the password test, and was wondering if you guys could see if you can login. And what does an Anonymous login mean? And are there any things I should know on having an FTP server?
address--69.161.200.44:1080
username--test
password--test |

Anonymous is when someone tries to log-in just by entering ftp://yourdomain.com. I, personally disabled this feature because I use the FTP server for webhosting ONLY on my domain.
However, if you wish to do something like share files, you'd probably want to leave anonymous turned on.
I'll see if I can log-in right now... |

It says ftp://test@69.161.200.44:1080 doesn't have access.
Also, you may want to know that, for some reason, some sites try to access your ftp server. I've had a Chinese Clothing Site, and a Chinese (No idea what its intent was, I cant read Chinese).. I banned the IP for those sites...
If you need any help with Cerberus, let me know :)!

If you are running Abyss on port 1080, you cannot run your FTP on port 1080. You will need to choose a different port and set up forwarding again. _________________

You'll need to make sure it is allowed to act as a server in Zonealarm and forward port 21 to your PC if you have a router. _________________
