|
|
Hello All,
Just before I get the pro version of abyss, i need to know a few things:
1. When I make a subdomain and add the virtual host for it, does abyss automatically recognise that it is a subdomain from the address and use that host or do I need to do it myself?
I hope this is how it works because it will make life so much easier! I heard Apache *shudder at the name* can do it but its difficult to set up *hurray for Abyss!*.
Thanks. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

I also really need this feature, but im just too cheap to pay for a server.
I may use apache on another port. _________________

When you declare a new host in X2, you can associate it with one or more domain/subdomain names. That's all you have to do.
Abyss Web Server X2 can also accept wildcards in domain names such as *.mydomain.com which will associate a host with www.mydomain.com and foo.mydomain.com, etc... . See also http://www.aprelium.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6824 .

OK aprelium, just to set my mind straight:
If I have the domain

all I have to do is add the virtual host for each subdomain into the abyss console and it will sort it out for me? If this is how it works, I will be a happy person!

I just think that 60 bucks are a bit high, since you only get one year of "free" updates. Anyway, I think i have to start using Apache since I'm hosting a lot of websites and I need virtual hosting.
Personally, i think that it's just a matter of time before somebody cracks X2 and share it on DC++.
(If Aprelium set the price to around $30 instead, I think a lot more people would buy Abyss and Aprelium would make more money, dont you guys think that?) |

Not really since the forum has 14000 members but most of them are one off people looking for help. They wont be interested in buying the server if X1 is enough for them.
I think the price is perfectly reasonable. Don't push aprelium, they work too hard for us!
Thanks again aprelium. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

When i click the "more info" button on your X2 info-page, i see this text:
"Abyss Web Server X2 is the professional edition of our highly rated software used by tens of thousands of people worldwide since 2002."
So, abyss X2 is used by more than 10k people, and X2 existed since the year 2003?
$60 x 10000 = $600000
Wow! That's a lot of money.

cmxflash, that is NOT what it means.
It says tens of thousands of people have used the earlier versions of Abyss.
It just states that X2 is the professional edition of the earlier versions.
Get it??? |

...NO SHIT
I was joking about it. I know Aprelium didn't make $600k by just selling X2 for a month or two. |

$60 for what abyss does and offers is very reasonable. I hope more people use abyss so it can stay around for years to come. Without abyss i would not have my web server up and running, I owe them more than thanks.
What is amazing is that for those who dont have money or refuse to pay can still use abyss. Those who want a few more features and priority can pay just $60. Heck for what abyss does... a min donation is worth $60.
Lets help keep the good guys afloat. |

I have used Abyss for over a year now. Before X2 there was no way to run dual websites without using the PHP script provided on this forum. NOW with X2 I will be able to drop the script and have the server direct users to the correct website. This will eliminate the single REDIRECT which happens with the script I currently have installed which CAN cause SEARCH ENGINES problems AND reduce ones ranking on Google ect;. To me...it is WELL worth the 60 bucks for the feature. Abyss is the perfect server for those of us that do not wish to be served by outside sources. It works perfectly in my PC environment, flawlessly works with my firewall and everything. Basically My websites are made completely cost free except for domain registration and IP directing via DynDns. So...for 60 bucks to add the FINAL perfection to them...I am going to spend it gladly! Rock on Abyss! |

I love X2 I messed with apache for quite awhile to configure virtual host and when x2 came along I had my 4 sites up and running immediately. The year of tech support is great. They answer withing hours of sending a quetion. |
