So, tonight I have gotten my domain name (www.3rdAwe.com), setup my Abyss (I'm very impressed so far, noob though), setup up a www.zoneedit.com account and added the domain and nameservers to where they are supposed to go. Now I realize that 3rdAwe.com shouldn't work yet cuz it takes time, but my IP is 67.11.247.117 and I have a Linksys Wirless-B 802.11b BEFW11S4 router. The only way I can access my site is by doing the localhost thing. I believe that the router is stopping access when I use the IP.
Could you guys help me out?? Cuz I've been reading the Linksys manuel ( http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?prid=544&scid=35 ) and these forums for about 3 hours. Also, can you access the IP now?? Should you be able to access the IP now?? I believe you should it if wasn't for the router. Oh also, Yes the IP is correct and Yes the computer is on and connected to the internet with Abyss running.
Thanks a bunch,

If you have read your router manual but not actually changed any settings on the router, then no, at the moment we should not be able to see your site - you need to setup port forwarding as described in the routers manual, or made a bit easier here :
http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm
Find your model and follow the instructions to forward port 80 on your router to port 80 on your PC, then see how you get on :)
Congratulations on including everything we needed to know in your post! |

Awesome that fixed me right up. I tried a few of these in the other areas of these forums, but as I am very new I couldn't complete them.
For the record, I donated $5 to www.portforward.com b/c they have an excellent free site.
Thanks for the help

Hello, I have a linksys router as well but not a wireless one. I took a quick look at the online manual and I think I have come up with a solution to your problem.
To let someone access your server, you need to allow port forwarding. This is done in the linksys routers console.
http://192.168.1.1 is my local access ip address to the console.
Depending on the type of router this may be different.
When you get into the console, look for a tab called "Port Forwarding" or just "Forwarding". A list of boxes and select buttons will apear. This is where you enter the IP to redirect to and the port or range of ports.
To find out the LAN IP address of your server, go to start, run and type in 'commmand' (without the quotes).
A command prompt should appear. Type in 'ipconfig' (again without the quotes) and you should get a list that looks like the following:
Windows IP Configuration
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 3:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.101
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
The one you want is the IP Address. Copy this into the IP box on the forwarding page and click apply. Now get your WAN (internet) IP Address from the status page and away you go.
Make sure everything is running on the server, type the IP Address into your browser, and if it has worked, your site should appear.

That's great, but if you read the thread again you'll see the problem was solved 12 days ago? |
