To test that the server works, use the local IP address and browser http://127.0.0.1 . If that works, that means that your problem comes from your network configuration. And it is up to you to do that right in order to allow people to have access to your computer (no server software will do that for you). Please read the second question in the FAQ at http://www.aprelium.com/abyssws/faq.html to know more about what to do enable the outside world access to your server. _________________ Support Team

If you are using XP, I think it automatically firewalls internet connections. To check, go to start-->connect to-->show all connections (or the equivalent via the control panel) and if there is a lock on the icon for the connection, it is firewalled. To disable it, right click on it, goto properties-->advanced, and uncheck the 'protect my computer using internet connection firewall' checkbox....xp will probably give you some warning about security, but press ok. |

If you're new to web serving and don't understand well things, we advice you to read the 'Getting Started' chapter in the user's guide of Abyss Web Server.
Basically, you should know what is your IP (you can use http://www.aprelium.com/ip) then tell people to access http://IP if your web server is using port 80. If your web port is set to another value, tell them to use http://IP:webport .
9999 is the web port the console uses. So it is only available to configuration not to people that will browser your web site. _________________ Support Team

just drop me an email at webserver2003xp+vbgunz.com and in it details of your OS, connection type, and a way to contact you... It would help to tell me your IP and if it starts with 192. you may already be out of luck but not sure.
"Any address that starts out with 192. means you're behind a network and only your network and everyone within it will be able to reach you, but not anyone else from the outside."
I prefer Instant Messaging but first drop me a message through email to warm me up.
You can reach me through IM at vbgonzalez2003xp+msn.com
I would like to help because I too had problems with setting up but Aprelium, the board and even strangers were nice enough to help and I would like to pay it back...
Look forward, be positive :)
PS. Remove the "+" in my email and instant messenger address and replaced it with @. Good luck :) |

You shouldn't try anything, especially things that do not make sense such as http://www.aprelium.com/12.252.26.95. As we recommended, read a little about web serving in general if you are new to this world and follow the suggestions in the second question of our FAQ at http://www.aprelium.com/abyssws/faq.html . If you really tested all this and thing still do not work then send us a detailed description of your situation and we will do our best to help you. _________________ Support Team

Aprelium thank you so much for your time and patience with the young learners. It seemed people could access his homepage but not a link to any other page.
The problem was: his linking conventions pointed to files outside of the htdoc directory
i.e file:///C:/Program%20Files/Abyss%20Web%20Server/htdocs/allies.html
The solution is: rename his links to a relative status.
i.e http://12.0.0.7/allies.html
I took out the time to try my best to help him and the problem was solved rather quickly.
Thanks Aprelium for the awesome server :) |

Abyss is my very first web server tackle and I like it.I had problems much like the young one did but boy did I go through a list of fixes before I realized the answer. Much thanks goes to Aprelium for the idea :)
Anyway I put y answers to the side and figured since the community was nice enough to give to me I'll try then to be nice enough to give back :)
I feel better now and you can keep the rest :) |
