Maybe your ISP blocks port 80: try another port.
Have a firewall running: disable it.
Is your modem also a router with more than one LAN port: follow the guide. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

Thanks very much for your info.
It was a great help.
Note:
In my case the modem had to be configured the same way as the router. _________________ When I open the browser and fill in the IP address:port number I get the index page of the wireless modem. What is wrong? Please help.

2) Go to your router configuration. Usually, you can type "192.168.1.1" or "192.168.0.1" in your browser to bring it up.
Helpful tip: After completing step 1, use the same digit(s) in the third block of your IP in step 2. Example: If your IP address from step 1 was "192.168.254.10," then use 254 to find your router (192.168.254.254). If your IP address was "192.168.1.10," then use "192.168.1.1" (taking the third block of numbers in your IP address, and putting them in the third and fourth place in step 2). |
it dosen't say what to go to if ur ip is 10.0.0.6 (like my'n is) what do i go to? _________________ .::If it could just teatch my dark heart to feel! |

Thanks for putting that in bold. Easier is definitely better.
How to port forward with a SpeedTouch 510:
Start>Run>Type "command">Type "telnet 10.0.0.138"
The defaults are:
Username: admin
Password: blank
Then type:
JBL wrote: | nat
create protocol=tcp
inside_addr=10.0.0.X
inside_port=80
outside_addr=0
outside_port=80
save
quit
exit |
Replace 10.0.0.X with your address. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

Same problem,, Router config. I have read all the material and tried everything but no luck. I can see the page but others cant. Somebody Please help!
Here is what ive done so far:
Windows XP
Cable Modem
External Router
I went into the base station management, found port forwding. I have these two options:
Application-triggered port forwarding
Application-triggered port forwarding accommodates programs that require multiple ports for data transmission. It opens an inbound (source) port only when data has been sent to a corresponding outbound (destination) port. Application-triggered port forwarding is useful when you play Internet games, hold video conferences, or use Internet telephony.
===================================================Or
Persistent port forwarding
Persistent port forwarding permanently opens specific inbound ports and sends all incoming data packets from those ports to a specific computer in your network. Persistent port forwarding is useful when you host a Web, File Transfer Protocol (FTP), or mail server on your network.
Im assuming its the second choice so I went in and set it up like this:
Description Inbound port(s) Type Private IP address Private port(s)
inbound ports 80 80 TCP 192.168.2.X Private Ports 80 80 |

- i couldn't find "forwarding" in anywhere.
What should i do/test? |

Again, thank you for the tutorial. In the directions quoted above, you've instructed us to remove/diable a firewall. Windows XP SP2 gives the user all kinds of hell if the firewall is disabled. I'm sitting behind a router, so that should help a bit, but would turning off ZoneAlarm v. 5.1.033.000 be a safe option?
Granted, I don't have much of anything on my computer at home in regard to personal or financial information, but just the principle of leaving the firewall off has me scratching my head. If I want to keep ZA running, is there a way that I can allow Port 80 traffic through and block all the other stuff?
Many thanks! Again, my thanks for the tutorial and the other assistance provided on the forum. |

jaipandya,
For your information, you cannot usually use your external IP from inside
your network. This IP brings the router configuration system. As a general
rule, depending on the location you are in, you should use a different IP
address.
Please read the following guide to know how to make your server accessible
(depending on the computer location) and how to configure your domain name:
Locally (from your computer), you can use 127.0.0.1 or localhost to access
the server. The full local URL is displayed in Abyss' main window (Local web
server URL).
To access your machine from another computer on your network (LAN), you
should use the LAN IP of the computer. Run the Windows command ipconfig in a
DOS command box to know this IP (it is usually of the form 192.168.*.* where
* are numbers ranging from 0 to 255). This LAN IP works only inside your
LAN.
To access the server from the outside, people should use your router's WAN
IP (or external IP). It is the IP assigned to it by your ISP. This WAN IP
can be known by browsing http://www.aprelium.com/ip from your computer. If
you have a router, you must configure it to forward incoming requests to the
web port to your computer so that Abyss Web Server can respond to them.
If your WAN IP changes often, You'll need to use the services of a free DNS
provider that can track those IP changes and give you a DNS name. We suggest
looking at http://www.dyndns.org or at
http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Software/Internet/Servers/Address_Management/Dynamic_DNS_Services/?tc=1 .
This way, you'll always access your server using an address like
http://www.yourserver.freednsprovider.com without paying attention to IP
changes.
You can also buy a top level domain name (for example,
my-company.com) and use the associate your external IP with it using the
registrar services or the free http://www.zoneedit.com/ . You can find more
information about this topic in
http://www.dslwebserver.com/main/domain-name.html . You can also find many
messages and discussions on our forum http://www.aprelium.com/forum about
DNS and domain names.
If you have problems to make your server reachable from the outside, we
recommend reading http://www.aprelium.com/abyssws/faq.html#A1-2 .
Notice that if you are using Windows XP, you must correctly configure its
internal Firewall: open the control panel, select the Networking section and
open the properties of your network interface. Select the Advanced Tab and
press the Parameters button (it should be in the bottom of the page). This
button will open a dialog where you can allow incoming connection to some
ports. If Abyss Web Server uses port 80, check the Web Server (HTTP) line.
If it uses another port, press Add... and enter the number of the port Abyss
uses as the internal port (select TCP and fill the other parameters
following the descriptions). |

Alright, i have the same problem as you all, on my own network my i.p. which is 192.168.0.2 works on both computers, how do i figure out the router, 192.168.0.1 is the other comp on the network.
Do i just try my luck and add the I.P to my domain, since everytime i go there it just says cannot find server.
Please tell me what i have to do, i've been kicked off by my own host so know i'm trying to use my own computer.

With the port forwarding, How do i find my router? i looked on the site for a description and when i logged on, it was nothing other than information about my cable modem. Is there an online test to find out? |

Go to Start -> Run and type "command" without the quotes , now to find
your Router's address , type "ipconfig /all" without the quotes and use
Default Gateway as the addresss , an example http://192.168.1.1 |

Is there no way you can say how to do it on the Forum?
Also i know this may sound stupid, but i seriously cannot find my router, I don't think i even have one, I mean i have looked for a big box with flashing lights coming out of it and thats my cable modem.
and when i get the I.P of that 192.168.100.1 there is no username and password its just a configuration manager of my cable modem.
Is there a way to forward it to my computer without a Router? |

I've been trying to configure my Abyss server for awhile now and from what I understand I need to do some port forwarding if my router is blocking incoming connection into my webserver. I also found out that the IP I'm getting from http://www.aprelium.com/ip changes everyday. In order for "port forwarding" to function, I need to set up my IP to be static. I followed all the instructions in http://www.portforward.com/motorola/wr850g.htm for port forwarding and setting static IP. I'm using port 8080 since my ISP seems to be blocking port 80. Here's some screenshots:
I didn't fully understand the instruction in http://www.portforward.com/motorola/wr850g-dhcp.htm step4. Also, in setting up my static IP in Control Panel/Network/Properties, ipconfig/all command gives me 4 identical IP numbers with 192.168.10.x See below screenshot.
I really need some guide going through here. Thanks |

They are not identical. The first one is different from the last 3.
The line IP Address 192.168.10.2 is your PC's IP address.
The other 3 - default gateway, dhcp server and dns server - are the IP of your router.

|
The IP you are getting from Aprelium is your WAN/internet IP. This is the IP others will use to access you site. You cannot control this, or make it static (without paying your ISP extra). However, you do not need a static WAN IP.
The instructions are to set a static LAN IP for your server PC.
http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip-dhcp.htm
It has also been explained previously in this thread and elsewhere on the forum. |

OK... I need to know... if I have a anti-virus program AND have the latest updates from Windows Update installed up-to-the-minute, is it better to use DMZ than regular? _________________ Hosted Abyss Sites-

No, there is no need. It will not improve the operation of Abyss in any way.
Abyss only needs one port open - 80. If you're only hosting a webserver, there is absolutely no need to use DMZ. I consider myself an advanced user and my knowledge of Windows security pretty damn good, but I still keep my server behind the router rather than DMZ'd. It's just not worth the risk.
If you're also hosting an FTP, DMZ can make life easier in terms of active connections from other users who are also behind routers, but in the long run for a small site it's easier to forward a range of ports and tell users to use passive connections.
When you have only port 80 open, the only risk that you're taking is running Abyss - which has been proved to be well secured and safe.
If you put your machine in the DMZ, all ports on your server are portentially accessible from the internet - this means any software that is allowed to listen for incoming connections is then a potential security risk. This is slightly mitigated by a personal firewall, but then the firewall itself becomes one more potential security hole.
I don't want to be busy at work the day someone discovers a way of remotely killing my software firewall then discovers some new Windows 0day... |

something. I even have Networking set up to accept
incoming connections but no devices are listed I guess
because I don't have a router/hub but I done it
anyway just in case. If anyone has any suggestions
please help. Thanks. |

Your IP resolves to AC5-Webproxy68.direcpc.com - I'm guessing that's some kind of transparent proxy server that your ISP has in place. You will need to find your real IP before you can make any more progress... |

Here are all the details at 192.168.0.1(DirecWay Satellite Modem)
IP Address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
NAT IP Address: 67.44.211.231
NAT Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.255
Router Address: 66.82.26.91
My Ip changed since yesterday because I reset
my modem. Today my Ip shows as 66.82.9.66
but usually stays the same unless reset or lose power.
Apparently this modem gets a router address to(above).
On the system status and signal page it says my
Operational; Upstream Addr: 66.82.9.66 Just thought I'd
through that in there. Is there another way to find an ip.
DirecWay is either hiding it or going through hundreds of
routers or something could be configured wrong. If anyone
has any suggestions about all these numbers and how
others can connect to my pc...please feel free. |

How am I supposed to run a webserver on my network if the little internet/lan box needs authorization to get access to it? Better yet, even if I did manage to prusade my mum or Niel to give me the username and pass, then hackers would screw up our internet.
Is there anyway pass the dammn little box without having to enter authorozation stuff? And then, how would people get access to my page when stupid No Ip.com says: The IP address you entered is invalid. Please enter a non-private IP network address when I try entering in 144.137.52.139:80 as the IP adress, and also when I try entering in 144.137.52.139:10002 as the IP address.
So, how do I get my website online (which is what I asked in my topic before, but I was told to read this topic.)? |

If you don't have access to your routers configuration, you don't get online, simple as that. Time to go sign up for a Geocities account until you're old enough to be allowed to play on the real internet. |

Luckily for you, I used to have that type of router. As that other person said, this is the setup page for your router. As deafult, the user name is admin, and the password is 123. If that doesn't work, try using 1234 as the password. If that doesn't work, try leaving the password blank. And if that doesn't work, look up Port fowarding DI 604 on Google. |

Unluckily for him, you are a year and 10 days too late. Congratulations.

I got into my routers configuration, so yeah, I can get the Abyss Web Server up and running.
Problem is, when I type in my IP address (my internet box is also a router) and put :60 at the end (which is the port that Abyss Web Server has the host running on), the page doesn't change. (and yes, I pushed enter. Duh.)
And yes, I clicked Apply (you can't see the apply button in the screenie.)
Should I have changed the Redirect IP Adress? If so, to what?
Edit 2: Never mind, I've got it working now :D
Didn't bother to check if my IP had changed after I configured the ports lol
Please test it at: http://144.137.53.60:60/ |
