So far, so good is what the man said when he jumped off a cliff, before the splat at the bottom ...
Well, I upgraded my gaming PC to XP SP2 and took about 35 minutes on my P4 2.8. No problems during the install or startup. Probably a bit longer on the server being it is an AMD 1800+.
When you first boot up it gives you the opportunity to NOT run firewall etc. I opted for that as I use a firewall on my router and a software firewall and virus protection anyway for my gaming PC and server.
I will play a bit on the installed security features but I believe the update with these features is for people that just turn on a PC and access the internet with not the slightest inkling of any kind of security issues nor vulnerabilities for virus and PC security. So to that end I can just play with these features if and when I want.
As for my web server .... I think a full back up and then give it a go this afternoon. If I see problems or not I will add a post here later. I am not expecting any but "murphies law" was developed many years ago before computers but it always applies, right. _________________ mg66

Upgraded my server box to XP SP2 and although it ask whether to block/unblock access to the server (after the restart) in which I selected 'unblock', I still had to go in and turn off the SP2 firewall. Have not checked into it but I am sure its just a check box somewhere.
Long story short ... I can access my web server and FTP server, both internally and externally. All system are go and as I said before I will go in and piddle around when I am bored stupid one day.
All my ancillary programs like AWStats seem ok too. _________________ mg66

It does turn a few things on by default. Download a file and it comes up with a toolbar telling you about the evils of downloading files. Click on tool bar and then download and it starts. Also has instructions on toolbar how to configure it to not show.
Everytime my virus scan updates and automatically turns off and starts it again to finish operation a ballon pops up telling me how bad it is to have my virus scan off.
The working with everything seems ok. Just some annoyances to take care off along the way with a bit of tweaking here and there. I dont know how many security holes this fixes but I can live with the turning off this and that. Now when I turn something off and want to turn it back on 2 years down the road will I remember where to find it, I think not.
If I knew yesterday what I know today I probably would be in no hurry to install it but like I said, who knows what security holes it is fixing. _________________ mg66
