Now that I have a domain name, how do I actually use it? |

If your domain name points to your IP, you have nothing more to do. Just browse http://yourdomainname . _________________ Support Team

1. Many thanks to the folks here at Aprelium for the Abyss Web Server!
2. To the other newbies out there (like myself) who don't know zip about running a server - check out these 2 sites for lots of info on running your own web server from home:
http://www.diywebserver.com
http://www.dslwebserver.com
...and don't get mad when people tell you to read stuff. ;-)
You have to read the instructions! Running a web server is serious business! There are no shortcuts! Exposing yourself and your computer to the Internet like that is no joke! Either you do the legwork, and learn what running a server is all about, or just forget about it, and leave it up to those who know what the hell they're doing, and who are willing to take the time to learn.
3. phpWebSite is a pretty good portal/site that's easy to install/configure, and the theme tutorial is the easiest I've ever seen anywhere! You can get it here: http://phpwebsite.appstate.edu
4. Last thing - you can register your domain for $7.95 a year at Godaddy.com (cheaper by year if you register for more than 1 year now).
Hope this info helps somebody. :) _________________ DLashley |
