|
|
OK here goes.
I setup the abyss webserver, and can see my website both inside my network and from the outside.
I have a domain name registered with no-ip.
http://mydomain.no-ip.com
and I want my friends to be able to type in the http://mydomain.no-ip.com instead of the Ip address. However this is not working if i type in the domain name i get an error page, if i type in the ip address this work flawelessly.
I read the sticky posted here but no where does it say how to link the 2 together. I know that on No-ip's website when you manage the domain it has plenty of options but i cant seem to find one that works.
Can anyone help? thanks

Sorry that my sticky didn't help you.
In the No-IP control panel, you need to create an "A" record, and enter your IP address into it. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

From your example, it sounds more like you have registered a free subdomain ie (yourchoice.no-ip.com) with no-ip rather than a domain name (yourchoice.com) - if this is the case all you need is the no-ip client set up to update the subdomain with your IP address.

thanks guys for the quick reply. I still cant get it to work.
if I type in my subdomain which is
http://thecmhl.no-ip.com
I should be able to see the abyss web server page correct? as i have not put my actual web pages into the folder yet?
I have the 'A' recorde created and DNS setup with the client and everything. I can only access the web server page by typing in my ip address and port number at www.proxyweb.net
http://xxx.xxx.x.xx:port number
And when I type that in on my regular browser i get an error. this is frustrating. I think after i get this figured out i will be writing a tutorial on how to setup an account from start to finish in Laymen terms. For newbies to understand. but I have to get this running first.
any suggestions?
thanks

Will,
I've found that many of the update clients are not that dependable. I sent you a private message with my suggestions. Let me know if they work for you and I'll repost them here on the forum.

Well I tried that solution, and the simple IP client when loaded and saved gives me an error everytime. And the same thing. When I type in
thecmhl.rr.nu the subdomain, i get a pgae cannot be displayed error, instead of the abyss web server page that is the default.

Yes I have a router and it is configured properly for the server here is what works. and does not work
This is with no-ip ok.
1) I type in my local host and the Abyss Web Server page displays PERFECT.
2) I type in the IP address and the Port number after and the Abyss Web Server Displays. PERFECT.
3) I get a friend to access the site from outside of my computer miles away, with the IP address and Port Number it works PERFECT.
4) I type in my IP address and port Number using www.proxyweb.net and I get the Abyss WEb Server that works PERFECT.
5) I get my friend to access the site using http://thecmhl.no-ip.com and he gets a PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED ERROR
I also found out that when I type in the IP address by itself the web page does not display, so I have to use the port number all the time.
What i ultimately want is to access my Abyss Web Server page using
http://thecmhl.no-ip.com
and nothing else i dont want to put port numbers or ip numbers in its place. And Im having troubles with this. |

If you normally have to type a port number after the IP address - ie you have changed Abyss from running on port 80 - you will still have to type it after the subdomain unless you use no-ips webhop service instead of the basic dynamic dns. |

i know i ask alot of stupid questions. but they need to be asked or i wont figure this out i checked out
http://www.no-ip.com/tips/id/2
now i have to do steps 1-3 in order to get the site to work without the port number?
but iam using Abyss and not M$ IIS. I dont know. it seems to me that no-ip should make some better tutorials. I never majored in webservers so its complicated to a point trying to unerstand it. |

Yes, you must do all three steps.
Step one can be accomplished inside the Abyss Console. Just change the port in the "General Configuration" menu. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

You've probably done this but just in case...Go into no-ip account online select your host, change to port re-direct 80 and insert the port # you've chosen then apply it. Then go into abyss server configuation and change the port from 80 to the one you just put in no-ip. That was my problem....hope this helps.

You must check the "Mask URL" option below when creating your host, and fill out the necessary information. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

Everyone,
I just noticed that when I goto the website, I get the address in the address bar now, but in the lower left corner "THE STATUS BAR FOR INTERNET EXPLORER" it shows the Ip address and port number and not the sub domain.
Now If i goto a site like www.tsn.ca it shows www.tsn.ca in the lower left status bar while the page loads.
How can i get my to show the sub domain and not the ip address?
thanks |

You cannot unless you use Port 80, as DNS does not work for Non-Standard ports. _________________ Bienvenidos! |
