I just downloaded and setup the newest version of Abyss this morning on my Win XP machine and at first it was running fine. However after about an hour it stops serving files entirely. It comes up with the page cannot be displayed error when I try to access them from any comp and the console stops working as well. When I stop the server and start it again the problem is fixed, however about an hour later it is back.

Try uninstalling and then reinstalling. Your running the latest version, right?

Have you ever thought about checking Your IP
Address , the only way to tell is if localhost still
works , if localhost still works after an hour than
your IP Address must have changed.

My IP didn't change, I have a dynamic IP address, but even still I checked it and its the same. And localhost doesn't work, its like the server just stops even though it says its running.

Is there a firewall on your computer or some network utility that can lock the IP?
Can you access your console from your computer?

My firewall is currently disable to allow players to access another server I'm running, and theres nothing that would lock my IP. I can access the console when I first restart the server, however after awhile I'm no longer able to access it from my computer or any other.

I've noticed an issue that is sort of like this. I run Norton Internet Security as my firewall. Sometimes, it says "there has been an attack against my computer." I look at the IP, and it turns out to be mine; so I don't worry about it. However, after this happens, I am no longer able to view my website.

To solve this issue, I disable my firewall after a so-called "attack" happens. Then my website magically works again. If I restart my computer, I am able to re-enable the firewall, and my website still works.

It seems that this "attack" triggers something in the firewall to lockdown my computer. Therefore my advice to you would be to disable your firewall and see if your website works. If it does, then at least we know what the issue is.

I could say try it on another computer, but I'm sure you don't want to do that.

Is the computer you run Abyss on being used as a normal computer also? Or do you use a dedicated computer (server) that stays on 24/7.

It's not a server per say, but its on 24/7. I would run it on another computer but its easier to run it on this one because of the need to connect to a mssql database I'm running.

Ok, then the only thing I can come up with is that another program you have installed is interfering with Abyss. Until we know what that program is, you're going to have to try it on another computer.

If it is the database, then I'd be fine with letting you use mine.

Glacier06,

Try increasing the "Maximum number of simultaneous connections" in the server parameters. Does this help?

Checking...

No there's not. The only thing I can think of thats left is that there must be a program interfering with it like you suggested earlier, however what that program could be, I don't know.

That's the problem. Most people have so many programs installed, there is no way of knowing. The only possible option I can think of is "format c:" but of course, you wouldn't want to do that.

I'm really sorry you didn't get your problem resolved... I wanted to see it work. If I come up with anything else, I'll be sure to tell you.

I got something like that too. Sometimes it aimply gives a "OK" but do not display the page, specially the heavy PHP ones.
What I did is to program a restart everyday like 5 in the morning, Windows loves it! :P
Another situation that I saw this happening was when my webmail (squirrelmail) had a memory leak, and the pagination got crazy, than AWS couldn´t answer nothing, often just an "OK" in the browser.
SO... your server must run light, give memory, give CPU, then AWS will give you the answer to all requests :)
Increase the timeouts too, put like 500s to CGI and regular requests. If you have PHP, increase the those times too, these things works specially with ADSL installations.

Hope this can help

Can you try uninstall Norton Security and see if it help. Sometime disable will not fix it. Same go with other firewall like ZoneAlarm or similar. Check in Add/Remove Program and see if there any other utilities. If this is a dedicate Webserver with database, try not to have too many util or apps on one PC. After uninstall, may need to reboot, and see if it will serve webpage.
