I already installed php and is working fine. I installed mySQL and its working fine except it says it cant connect to localhost

Errorlog:
mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061)'
Check that mysqld is running on localhost and that the port is 3306.
You can check this by doing 'telnet localhost 3306'
I did telnet localhost 3306 and says it can't connect. Any help is welcome.

Are you sure that you are running the MySQL server (mysqld.exe)? Installing MySQL doesn't do that for you automatically.

1. Navigate to the folder where you installed MySQL (ex. C:\mysql)
2. Double-click on the "bin" folder
3. Double-click on the file named "winmysqladmin.exe"
4. When the console pops up, click on the tab that says "my.ini Setup"
5. Click on the button that says "Create Shortcut on Start Menu"
6. Close down the MySQL server
7. Reboot Windows

MySQL should start with Windows now, and then minimize to the System Tray - with the "traffic light" icon on GREEN (if it's on RED, you screwed up somewhere). :)

P.S. If you haven't set a password for MySQL, and you don't know how:

1. Shut down the MySQL server (if it's running)
2. Navigate to C:\Windows and DELETE the "my.ini" file
3. Reboot Windows
4. When MySQL starts, you should get a box which asks you to enter your USERNAME and PASSWORD.
5. When you enter this info, a new "my.ini" file will be created which will contain all your MySQL server settings

You can MANUALLY launch MySQL anytime by navigating to START>PROGRAMS>START UP> then click on WINMYSQLADMIN.

You can also MANUALLY turn the MySQL server ON or OFF from the "traffic light" icon in the System Tray.

OH OH! 8O

I just checked my MySQLadmin Console, and on the ENVIRONMENT tab, in the MyODBC box it says:

Not Found
Driver 3.51 Not Found

Anybody got any feedback, tips, help, prayers for me? I'd sure appreciate some help with this. Thanks!

I re-read the Instruction manual for MySQL, and I found the answer. Here it is:

Code:
Update: I did some more reading, and found out that ActiveState Perl comes with PPM (Perl Package Manager). I ran "ppm.bat" and it started PPM for me in a DOS window. I then used the command:

install dbi

install dbi y/n? y

It then connected to the Internet, downloaded and installed DBI.pm for me, and guess what??? NO more error messages in my cgi.log!

I copied that over from a post I made in another topic. I don't know how to link to specific posts yet. (sorry aprelium)
