How does one open port 80 on a router? I've referred to the manual but it has nothing about opening ports...
Here's the online version: http://www.smc.com/drivers_downloads/library/7008ABR_MN.pdf
Can someone please guide me on how to do this?
Thanks.
Add-on:
I have also tried 8000 and 8080 but it still doesnt work.
Pinging the ip add shown on http://www.aprelium.com/ip/ is successful though... Can anyone help me? _________________ Quipious

- IP given by ipconfig in command prompt: 192.168.123.108
- IP given by your site: 192.169.41.47 _________________ Quipious |

In the Manual of your SMC Router, read the Chpater 4 and locate the section "Virtual Server". You should configure the router to forward TCP incoming traffic on its port 80 to your computer on the port you want. A small example is shown there. People will access your router's IP address and that latter will transparently receive/send data to your computer to reply to their requests. _________________ Support Team

Thanks a bunch
Does mean to access the website from elsewhere, you go to http://192.168.123.254:80/ ?
On my computer, it leads to the router admin page...
What URL must you access to view it? _________________ Quipious |

Since we don't really know how your network is set but here are the general rules:
* Suppose your router address is 192.169.41.47
* Suppose your computer IP on the LAN is 192.168.123.108
* Suppose your run Abyss Web Server on your computer an that the web port is set to 8000
* Go to the configuration of your router and following the instructions in the "Virtual Server" section.
* Add a line such that:
Private IP=192.168.123.108 (your IP)
Private Port=8000
Type=TCP
Public Port=80
Using these settings, poeple will have to browse http://192.168.123.108:80 or simply http://192.168.123.108 to have access to your web server. _________________ Support Team

Unfortunately, the page still cannot be displayed after following all the instructions above...
1) Will it affect the server if my connection is PPPoE, thus the router's ip changes everytime it reboots?
2) I do not understand why the LAN (internal) IP is used as it is dependent on the network. How is such a IP accessible via the internet?
Here's the actual error message:
The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

Each time the router IP changes, you must use the new one.
You can access to the server from your LAN using your LAN IP and from outside using your router IP.
Please read the router's manual (yes, we know, it isn't always easy but this is the price to pay to master technology) to understand how things work. Everything is explained there. _________________ Support Team

Just one more question:
How do you find out your router's IP?
Does IP shown at http://www.aprelium.com/ip refer to my ISP's server or the router's? _________________ Quipious |

The IP shown by http://www.aprelium.com/ip may not be the correct one if there is proxy or some other stuff after your router.
Ask the person who installed the router about its IP. This should be also available in its configuration panel (See WAN Setup Menu.) All the information we give you is available in the PDF of your router's manual. _________________ Support Team

Thanks a lot!
Perhaps you can include some amount of this, even though vaguely, in the documentation of the future versions of the web server... ;) _________________ Quipious |

So it works now ? Great !!
We will include a "vague" description in the FAQ. But that is still very dependant on the router you use. That's why we cannot give precise instructions. The better is still reading the router's manual :D _________________ Support Team
