Don't laugh - 1 day 20.5 hours up time since it went on-line.

Hrm....I had that same problem from work. My wife's laptop can see it though. Hrm.....*grumble*
I'll check the router again, but I thought I had port forwarding set (virtual server on my D-Link DI-614+ router).
*grumble*
Thanks for the confirmation - better to know that others can't see it than to think that it's available outside my computer. |

Can you try again? Didn't realize that my DI-614+ router had a DDNS button under tools that had to point to No-IP.com.
Thank you

Interesting. I am more of an image person; and your layout seems to be text-only. Also, try to hide the frame borders. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

Images are on the Cars, Trucks & Choppers section. I used to have it image intensive, but too slow to load on many boxes. Went with text to make it easier for those who normally visit who didn't have the bandwidth.
Thanks |

I understand. However, a couple graphics don't hurt. After removing the frame borders, you could possibly make a title image. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

Probably will, but currently focusing on making sure that the code is solid. I also use the site as a 508 compliance test (I work on-site for a .gov).
Thanks for the ideas :)
Put the box on the router's DMZ, hopefully the link will work now. I have a "spare" PI 120 that I may end up making a Mandrake 10.x machine with the Abyss server - place that in the DMZ and bring my box back in. But, for now, we'll see if this works *fingers broken from crossing so much* |

Link still doesn't work.
Speaking of Mandrake, I still want to kill someone over that whole "Disc 4" problem. The installation asks for "Disc 4" when in reality, there is no "Disc 4." Anyway, sorry for the tangent. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

D4 = Documentation and extras, I think. D1 - D3 = installation discs.
Windows XP Firewall = on = problem? Don't really want to turn it off as some viruses target that being turned off.
Thanks again for all the tips, tricks, ideas & help :) |

Turn the XP firewall off and see if it works.
Also, Disc 4 turned out to be a bonus disc that developers get. Only problem is, no one told me about this. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

*pounds head into workstation*
Windows XP Home FW = Off
ZA = Off
Still behind router
When I tried putting the workstation in the DMZ, it still wasn't accessible.
htdocs/index.htm = created - Link Testing *Testing kind people's patience*
Could it being a framed page be doing anything goofy? I can create a "dummy" index.htm and see if that is accessible.
Thanks again for all the help :) |

Still down. How about MANUALLY putting your computer in front of the firewall? Take the Ethernet cable, unplug it from the router, and plug it right into the modem. If it works, then at least we know what the problem is. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

"modem" does have a USB cable that I could use to connect the modem to the computer and then let the wireless router connect to the modem via RJ-45 so that she can get out and do her school work.
*Not to self, look into other Wireless routers when upgrading*
Thank you again everyone!! :) |

That may work. It depends on the router. Some routers allow you to use RJ-45 and USB at the same time, and others don't. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

*grumble* Even physically detached from the router. Straight connection to the dsl "modem", still couldn't get any connection verification other than FTP when I ran my site on Central Ops' Domain Dossier. Currently pulled the server down, will try on either the Linux partition or another workstation. Time to get back to working on the house.
Thank you again for all the help!!! Very easy to set-up web server (no complaints), just not sure why my workstation didn't want to work with it. |

Verizon DSL
The router "auto-dials". i don't double-click on the Verizon icon to connect to the Internet. Could that be throughing things for a loop?
Thanks again :). I'll check with Verizon to see if they have any guides/guidelines. |

DSL that dials (like SBC Yahoo and Verizon) are "PPPoE" connections. I call them "the advanced phone line."
I must say, Verizon has one long-ass terms of service. That might even top AOL. But I think I found what you are looking for:
"You may not use the DSL Service to host any type of server personal or commercial in nature." (Category 3, Section 3.6, Article E)
This means one of two things: They will either get mad if you host, or they will block port 80 just to show you that they mean business.
Sorry about that. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

Acceptable Usage, Blocked Ports, and Terms of Service (TOS)
Before we even talk about what kinda connection you end up choosing, we need to talk about "Acceptable Usage, Blocked Ports, and Terms of Service (TOS)". Simply stated, most ISP's DO NOT want people to run servers on their networks. There are many reasons for this, here are just a few:
* First of all they don't want people sucking up bandwidth which is expensive
* Many servers run by inexperience people become a security liability
* Virus and worms like Code Red prey on unsecured servers
* They don't want to help you troubleshoot server problems
* They can charge you more for "business class" DSL or Cable modem
In order to prevent people from running servers, ISP's put notices in their contracts and Terms of Service. In the past few years, they have been much more proactive and started to block certain port numbers that servers need to access the Internet. For example, most ISP's block port 80 because that's the webserver port. They usually also block port 25 to curb people from sending SPAM intentionally or unintentionally..............Having said that, if you want to run a server, choose an ISP provider that allows servers. Look through their FAQ's and Terms of Service. You don't want to get into any trouble for running your server. Most big provider companies won't allow servers, but many 3rd party providers do allow people to run servers.....If you know your ISP doesn't allow servers and you still choose to run one, you do so at your own risk. This website takes no responsibility for your decision to do so....

Suprisingly, SBC Yahoo DSL does allow a webserver. (At least they don't disallow it; they may be a little ticked off, but it isn't disallowed in their TOS)
Maybe you can switch ISPs. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

That's too bad. Where do you live? There is a company called "ATG" that lets you host a website; they are available in California, Oregon, and Washington. _________________ Bienvenidos! |
