do you run a firewall?
if so is it a McAfee firewall, if so, get another as I have tried to work around the McAfee problem with a p2p friend, the soloution was to ditch the McAfee firewall and go with Zonealarm (which I have tested extensively and has saved me on several occasion unlike Norton firewall that let me get hacked!)
If your behind a router (sometimes referd to as a Hardware firewall, proxy or NAT, router or switch) you need to forward ports to the machine that you are running the boards services on.
ALSO!!! XP users will have issues if they leave the XP firewall running, believe me when I say this, the XP firewall is not worth the CPU clock cycles as it causes more issues than cures.
AND!!! your ISP could be restricting your port access or you may be parked behind a proxy server thats maintained by your ISP, like me, but thats a workable soloution...
www.dyndns.org is a better DNS service in as far as the IP tracking is spot on and updates are immediate and no waiting for your DNS to update, they also do services to allow users to access your machine on alternat ports incase your ISP is blocking you.
Without knowing your particular set up its difficult to come up with a soloution to your situation...
BUT you have something to go on for now.
To give you an idea, my board and services are distributed across a network and IM behind a firewall, NAT(port switch) and ISP proxy server, yet everything is accessable because I use the DNS in conjunction with a configured port switch and firewalls, no substitute for configuration, TRUSTpunk would tell you that, eh?? lol

I have a netgear wgr614 router and I run xp , I also use zone alarms.
I have the firewall in xp turned off , I went into zonealarm pro and selected my router to be the gateway to my server , that didnt work so I turned zone alarms off completely , I figure once I get it working I can turn it back on and see what happens .
I have my router set to forward http requests to the machine running the service .
I have tried several ports besides port 80 without sucess .
dyndns.org is were I got my domain name at. My router updates my ip at ever change , it has a configuration screen within the router to do that automatically .
I have heard that my internet provider blocks alot of the typical ports that web servers run on . I am going to test several differnt ports tonight does anybody have any suggestions as to what ports work the best .
Also is there any programs out there that I can run that will tell me if my web page is accesible outside my server .
Currently , I make a change and then turn on msn messenger and bug the crap out of my friends , lol , there has to be a better way to test than this , im running out of friends , lol. |

Hi samuelc123--
On your last point, you can check to see if your site is answering from a remote network by using a proxy.
You are welcome to check using the nph-proxy.cgi I have on my Abyss website here:
http://sixa.no-ip.info/proxy.html
Most people are using this as a "anonymizer" proxy but it should tell you if your site is answering outside of your own network.
Good luck!

My Problem is that my isp is blockling every single port , I did a port scan and just about all the ports were stealthed by my isp.
There were some tcp - udp ports that wernt stealthed , but they were manily used by microsoft programs such as mstask.
Does anybody know how to close services off that I dont use and open one of those microsoft ports up so I can run the webserver on there . |
