I cant save any notepad files as shtml instead of html. Is there any reason for this? Have I not configured my webserver correctly?

Open the directory where the files are located using Explorer. Configure Explorer to show the extensions of all the files. And rename the files with the extension you want.
You problem is a Windows problem, not related to our server.
