I don't have time to help you completely, but you are using Windows. chmod is a Linux command, and on Windows that step isn't necessary.

I think Abyss will use the 4 cores, but only if the OS has it. I'm assuming Abyss makes threads to accept and handle connections, which then the OS would move around. |

I agree with pkSML. I do the other partion/drive thing too for that reason. OS reinstalls are really quick.
Also, keep things like FTP servers and MySQL secured well if you use them. |
