Here's a question for you, please let me know your opinions on this one.

Your Brother and his Wife (being Me and My Hubby), whom you havn't seen in a year, Invites you over for Thanksgiving, They smoke, you don't. You ask them to smoke outside while your there, In an effort to make peace. the other guests offer to smoke outside. Your brother, tells you however that his wife wont be because she doesn't want to be running back and forth and trying to cook and host the get-togather. However, your told that your brothers wife will be by the window and open it.

what do you do:

A) Apprieciate the effort everyone is making and spend time with you family for the holdiday.

B) Become upset and wonder why everyone can't relize that your a non smoker.

C) Tell you sister-in-law that she's ruining the family holiday, then not go to the dinner.

A.

You're going to someone elses house, you don't make the rules. If they were coming over to your place and refused to go outside, you'd be well within your rights to "Become upset and wonder why everyone can't relize that your a non smoker."

If you go over to someones house, it's their rules in effect, not yours.

This happens all too often with many (not all) non-smokers.
Back in the 90's, after I left the military, I part-owned and operated a bar/restaurant.
Many times, I noticed the arrogant attitudes that non-smokers had against smokers.
Plus, all the propaganda the EPA and American Lung Association are spewing to the
public about the "dangers" of second-hand smoke just strengthens their attitude.

If I was living in the US and was into all that thanksgiving-holiday-thingie and my non-smoking brother wanted people to go outside when they wanted to smoke, I would've just told him that he could go outsite when my guests was smoking or just to go home again if he wanted to discuss it furthermore.

Your house, your rules... that's it, end of discussion.

While I can understand them not wanting smoke all up in thier face they act as if smokers are standing around blowing it directly at them. And this whole campaigne against smokers Is down right discrimination. As of January here in washington it will be illegal to smoke in a bar, or within 25 feet of a building entrence. I think it's crap that the goverment is telling bar owners how to run thier establishments. I would totally protest this if I were them.

Ah, I thought you were asking about the hypothetical situation as if you were pissed of you wouldn't be able to smoke at their house. Make sure you get the biggest fattest cigar you can find and sit as close to his partner as you can if they're in your house and bitching about smoking ;)

The worst case scenario I could think of right now is if a whole country was banned from smoking. Actually some politicians here in Denmark try to get a law like that in action... but they'll never be victor, I will! I would slaughter all the non-smokers in this country and send all the politicians talking about banning smoking to the sun so they cou... ah, what the heck. They can live in my house and be tortured by me smoking them in their faces.
I'm not against all non-smokers, only those who bitch too much. But if I'm at a friends house and they're non-smokers I would off course ask them first if I could smoke inside or if I have to go outside.

Unfortunately it's people like you who cause so many problems. Second hand smoke is deadly, and most smokers do not consider this. My university has just banned smoking in all it's buildings and grounds. The profits in the university owned pubs and night clubs have increased greatly.

Also, you will no longer be allowed to smoke in pubs serving food in 2007, do you know how unpleasant it is eating a meal with someone else on a near by table smoking? Which in my opinion does not go far enough, smoking should be banned in all pubs/night clubs.

First In my personal opinion if you are the owner of a club/restaraunt you should be able to decide for yourself how you want to run your establishment. It's the person's choice not the goverments.

Secondly The whole point of this post was to discuss whether I was wrong or not for telling my brother in law and his girlfriend that I wouldn't be smoking outside my own home during the holidays. Not to open a forum for the debate of the affect of cigarretes.
