|
|
Alright I just ran into abyss web server today and decided to install it insted of paying $200 to install win xp pro. I am using win xp home and I folowed the instructions to install php. I installed php 5.0.5. Now from my understanding you are supose to put php files in the cgi-bin directory but from what I found out in the forums is that may not be true. I made a php file with
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html>
<head>
<title>PHP Info</title>
</head>
<body>
<?php phpinfo(); ?>
</body>
</html>
to show my phpinfo and as a test page. but when I load it I get a blank page.
I would greatly appreaite it if someone could inform me on who this works with abyss web server? |

I had the same problem at the beginning.
Under XP Pro with no SP, my page with phpinfo() was called index.html and didn't want to work.
I had no time to investigate, so I just changed it in index.php and everything was fine.

All PHP files have the extension .php when you install it but you can add the
.html and .htm extension , only files that are declared PHP files will execute.

I followed the following instructions
Click here if you need to download MySQL. After you downloaded MySQL , create a new folder in C:\ called MySQL and unzip the contents of the mysql zip file to that new folder. Go to C:\MySQL\bin and click on mysqld.exe and it should launch MySQL. If MySQL doesn't start on Windows 2000/XP , go to My Computer -> Controle Panel -> Admin... Tools -> Services and Start MySQL. Good Luck!
Note: You will need to download the (Unzip in C:\) version of MySQL v4.1.x.
The bold section is the problem I can not find the bin folder and I can not find mysqld.exe and the control panel thing does not work eighter there is no my sql there I am running win xp home sp2. Also I am have a tiny bit of trouble understanding that note there to. |

Thanks alot that worked great Axis now I am having trouble configuring phpmyadmin all the links in the page are doubled and I have php installed into two directories c:\PHP and c:\Program Files\PHP5 I have to have them both inorder for phpmyadmin to work also at the bottom of my main phpadmin page it says the following:
Your configuration file contains settings (root with no password) that correspond to the default MySQL privileged account. Your MySQL server is running with this default, is open to intrusion, and you really should fix this security hole. The mbstring PHP extension was not found and you seem to be using a multibyte charset. Without the mbstring extension phpMyAdmin is unable to split strings correctly and it may result in unexpected results.
So thats that I really appreacite your help once I figure all this out I am going to come back here to help other peoples out also! you guys are awesome! |

Hi Charles--
I, personally, would not install PHP5 into two different places on your machine. I would delete one of them and that might make things with phpmyadmin a little less hazardous. (Unless you know have some special need to have php installed in two different locations.)
I followed TrustPunk's tutorial with phpmyadmin but ran into a few glitch's, I found that if I deleted all the present privileges I would get locked out of the system. After installing, deleting and re-installing a few times I just found I could simply use Abyss's password protection feature to password protect the phpadmin directory and then enter a new username, database name etc. In other words, I just left the system itself have root privileges but password protect the directory phpadmin is installed into.
I would ignore the warning, and password protect the phpadmin directory with Abyss if your problem is similar.
Regards,
Axis |
