Which Template?

Let me explain why the main page is dramatically different from the content pages:
I have come to the conclusion that many websites bombard their uses with lots of color on the main page. In my experience, however, ads and such do not help when a user is trying to read. That is why the front page is much more vibrant than the content page, so the user can read without the disruptions.

I much prefer the first link - http://arctic.trielite.net/htmlproject/ - over the second. In my opinion things are more spread out and not thrown in my face all at once, I am not so overwhelmed when looking at it as the first. It has, in my opinion, more of a gamer-site look to it then the first. Though, unlike your reasoning in the post, I would make the content pages follow the same style as the main page, or at least one more similer. There's just to much diferance between the two it distracted me at first wondering what happened to the site.

These are just my opinions and I hope it helps you in comming to choose between the two.

I like the first. The second seems very squashed together, and it's more difficult to spot things quickly.

I changed the second one to just replace the first one's news, so now they look fairly alike. :)
