Well, most broadband ISP's wont give you a high upload speed (normally about 256Kbps, thats about 25KB/s). Download speed isnt much of a issue when running a webserver, its upload you need to be worried about.
phpBB will run fine at 10KB/s, I have tested this myself and it runs close to the Aprelium's forum speed. I would say that 256KBps (25KB/s) should be fast enough for most peoples needs, thats if you dont intend on serving large files. By large files I mean above 1MB.
Hope this helps. If not PM me. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

ok here are my speeds. What do you think about them?
DOWN: 1792 KBits/Sec
UP: 448 KBits/Sec
My download speeds are lower but my upload is higher! Which makes a difference in running a server? |

I'd say that's fantastic. I don't host any downloads (anymore) though, but that would be great for PHPBB. I host my webserver (not Abyss :( I can't afford a professional license) so I can tell you a bit more about the speed, or show you an example if you like.
About any file under 55kb would be downloaded in a second, so most PHP files would be like ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM. Keep in mind that's only if you had one user. Take 55, divide it by the number of users you expect, then that's the download speed each person gets. |
