I went to run>cmd, and found out what my ip is. http://192.168.1.65./ brings up my page to me, but no one else.

I have read through the forums, about going to zoneedit.com and such, but this is for a dynamic ip address. Even if my IP does change with each connection, I should be able to find out what it is NOW, tell you what it is NOW and then have you being able to view it NOW. At least that is what comes from my rationale.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

If I do have to use zoneedit, which program should I use on my computer, so that zoneedit knows what my IP changes to? Thank you. Any tips are appreciated.

If you're behind a router you have to forward port 80. If it isn't forwarded outsiders cannot get access to your server and see the pages on it.

that is not your global IP, it's your lan IP, only computer on your LAN can see your page using that IP. To find out your global IP, go to http://www.aprelium.com/ip/

Using that IP alone might not be enough since you're behind a router according to the IP you used. For that case you need to configure port forwarding for your router, which you can do a search on the forum here or google for it, a lot of information regarding port forwarding is available around.

You don't need zoneedit to let other users see your page, the purpose of zoneedit is attach your domain name with your dynamic ip so others can view your page by typing in just the domain name, which will then "translated" by zoneedit into your ip.

So how would I get my IP to stop changing if it is dynamic? Do I have to change it everytime it changes?

Typically, your ISP assigns you an IP address that may be subject to change without notice (i.e., a dynamic IP). And typically you can buy a static IP, but that generally costs more (and so people here don't generally do that). To alert free services such as ZoneEdit that your IP has changed -- and, importantly, to NOT alert such services more often than they like (typically on the order of once a month) if your IP doesn't change, or they'll get mad at you and disable your account -- you can use a program such as Direct Update:

http://www.directupdate.net/

This is what I use. It cost $US15, as I recall, and I'm very satisfied with it.

Regards,

Bill

I just went to dynu.com, and after reading some the material there it's unclear to me whether their free dynamic-IP-redirection service is for any web site, or just for ones that have ...dynu.com at the end. If the latter, it won't work for me and others who've purchased regular ol' domains, i.e., www.xyz.com, which is why I ask.

Thanks,

Bill
