|
|
Well I have been up all night trying to configure how to and if it is possible to run "ErfurtWiki" on Abyss. Let me shorten the name of this wiki to uncomplicate typing it, will call it ewiki.
Now I have read all night long all the read me file's for ewiki and all the documentation for using php along with Abyss. I am not wanting to use msql and as far as this gentleman has said in his read me files you don't have to use it, something about flat files. At any rate, I am not well versed in php or for that matter the entire process of setting this up with the Abyss server.
Thank God for this forum, I hope. Now for the questions:
1. I have php as Abyss has suggested downloading the window's installer, and am using php 5. Here is where I am stuck.
2.I need to find out how not only to edit some files that are necessary, but then how, where, and with what. Then if I can get that far I will need to know where to put them, as I am a bit confused by this gentlemen's read me file. He says that I should put the entire directory into the root htdocs either on the server or does he just mean within the directory on my PC where I have the Abyss set up? If therefore he is meaning for me to get them up onto the server to said location "root htdocs" I will need to know where they are and how to get them there. There are alot of configurations, that I could do with some help, actually alot of help.
3. Now if someone has the time for all of my problems, I would surely be in their debt. I actually could use if either it is already documented or if someone could edit me an email or just a thread here on the forum a step by step instructional and what exactly am I to put in particularly the config. file? As I have stated earlier I am wincing over this as I have no prior experience in php, that is to say how to use it, get it started and once started how to edit inside of it what is to be edited. I don't really want to make this more complicated then it really is but of course when you don't have any knowledge it does throw you quite a bit for a loop.
4.Perhaps someone may be familiar with this ewiki that I have referrenced here in this thread? And also maybe someone has already enabled it on the Abyss server, which would be enormously shocking to me as then I would have so much confidence then as to know it can be done and it works on the server.
5. If say it is a matter of copy and pasting or re-editing, and someone either has a script to borrow, and can let me in on how to and where to put it, I think it would look lke a go! And by now if someone has taken the time to read this exhaustive thread and has the capacity to undertake or understand my challenging perplexing way of trying to get my point out, oh that would make Christmas so wonderful this year.
6.See I am going to be heading to college at the ripe age of 51 to take on 2 yrs of programming in the hope's of landing something afterwards, which isn't entirely out of the question for us older gentlemen's. And all you youngin's out there are so groomed in computering now a day's that helping this old fella out would be such a fantastic venture for you and for me. It would really just be such a beautiful thing here.
7. Ok, well now that I have spewed my guts all over, is there a chance that someone could have the answer's to all my question's?
Finally, well that's it. This server is such a great program, if only I can understand well enough to use it. If the ewiki cannot be enabled using it well there's enough of html or websites to be had or created for another forum I guess or could there be another kind of wiki that can be used on this server?
Wiki's are so quick and small compared to alot of other programs, forums and such. Primary reason why I am trying so desperately to get someone to help me get it running. So if someone could and has the time, let me know either on here or you can email me at: eternity739@earthlink.net with what ever you could manage in the way of information.
Much abligded to you'all, and have a healthy and prosperous Christmas and New Year won't you, From the, Hardryve _________________ Hardryve |

If help is needed here just post or do a sticky somewhere. I am always online during the 12:00am till 8:00am duration. Haven't seen any answer's to my question yet. Aprelium is a wonderful program, it would be a good idea to throw up a thread of what can be put on it. Things like wiki's, forums, etc you get the idea. This way alot more folks could make plans as to what they will use the server for before hand. Oh btw, I have been having alot of difficulty accessing the control console, have already changed my username and password, and still cannot get inside of it, any suggestions besides the one's that are already posted, they are not enough to fix what ever is happenning. _________________ Hardryve |

Hardryve, welcome to Aprelium forums.
I'm not familiar with ErfurtWiki and after reading the documentation located HERE, there seems to be an
excessive amount of file editing required. BTW - to edit files, just open with notepad.
My advice is to go to http://opensourcecms.com/ and look for an easier wiki to use. (Look in their menu on the
left)
I would also highly suggest you install MySQL. It would make installation of these much faster and automatic.
Anything you want published to the internet would normally be put in your htdocs folder (located in the Abyss
directory). *Here's a tip*- navigate your way to the Abyss directory and locate the htdocs folder. Don't open it. Just
right-click the htdocs folder and select Send To > Desktop (Create shortcut). If you don't want this on your desktop,
then just Click-and-Drag the folder down to your Quick Launch bar at the bottom of your screen to make a shortcut.
Now you have quick access to the htdocs folder where most of the work is done.
Concerning the control panel access, make sure Caps Lock isn't turned on. Username and password are case-sensitive.
I hope this helps a little. If you need more help, don't hesitate to ask.
Merry Christmas.

Great link. But now I am having a bad pararamater error and can't get to the console, 404. Instructions were to go to the console and fix it. So I guess I will be downloading again. I'll be back, and thxs again for that link. _________________ Hardryve |

Hey,
I re-installed the same abyss server and everything worked well until after I had to reset the admin and password, I haven't been able to get into that console no matter what I tried, the cap lock was off, but still no entry.
Perhaps I am doing something incorrect here? Isn't the console supposed to open up after you put your admin username and password in? Everytime I try to access it, I have to put in the admin username and password but no access.
I'm using Firefox and not IE, so does that make a difference? I will try with IE and see if I can access the console. More than likely I won't be able to as my memory serve's me the last time I tried the same problem existed using both Firefox and IE. Really need a good thorough explanation why. Can you suggest something?
