How much RAM or memory can I expect this thing to take up?
I have a:
512 MB Memory
40 Gig Hard Drive
Pentium Four 2.0whatchamacallsit
Around 300 something connection (kb)
Can I expect my computer to slow down?
Just so you know I use my computer for gaming too...
Anyone help me out? Thanks... |

Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer.
"How much RAM or memory can I expect this thing to take up?" is obviously going to be dependent entirely on the size of your databases, complexity of tables and queries etc, same goes for the performance hit.
How long is a piece of string? |

I'm too poor to afford string, how would I know?
Okay, let's say a forum with moderate amounts of traffic. |

No one can give you an answer here. You'll have to do the test.
But FYI, you can tune MySQL to use less/more memory, be quick/slow... All depends on what you want. This is usually done through its configuration file and you'll certainly find more about this topic in its official manual. |
