Hi Techman--

Are you using a router? If so, have you configured port forwarding correctly?
There are many discussions about port forwarding on this forum.

PHP does not need to be installed in order to make abyss "work."

Could you post the exact model name / number for that Westell ? Some Westell's are combined modem/routers...

some dsl modems have a preset wall built in, that you need to login into, ie, Efficent Networks 5200 which you need to unblock ports. is it pppoe built in?

also, hows, your hosts file in windows/ no virus?

No , I make sure no virus's are in my PC , Scanned daily and auto updates are working and , also no adware or spyware or malware . My Westell modem info follows : Westell Inc . Model # B90-220030-04 REV F also has a sticker that says Powered By Wind River Software . When I recieved this modem it came with a disc that had I think drivers and it had a program on it called connection manager which is useless as tits on a bore hog . It is supposed to tell you what is wrong with your connection but if servers are down or no Internet access for some reason it cant tell you nothing anyway , so I dont run it . it is also turned off in Win Startup . It is not even needed to access the net . Got some work to do and will check back in a couple hours . I appreciate all the help , it would really nice to get this working . So far from what I can see , this Abyss program is everything it says it is and has lot of possibilities . Thanks

"Port Forwarding for the BellSouth FastAccess B90-220030-04 made by Westell"
http://www.portforward.com/westell/B90-220030-04-portforwarding.htm

Setup your port forwarding to the correct port and try again. I'd suggest not using port 80.

Ok Thanks I will Do it . So that means that it is a router also , thanks . Well this solves a lot of problems , not just with Abyss . All my File Sharing programs say always that I am firewalled . I knew I wasnt firewalled ! It had to be something else , ever since I have been on this service . I even called them up once and they couldnt tell me nothing . So much for their customer service . You guys have told me more in a short time than all the while I spent on the phone with bellsouth . Thanks , I will let you know how it comes out .

Well ,
got it configured in Bellsouth with port forwarding and it seemed to fix my file sharing programs but not sure about my abiss server . My adapter IP address is 192.168.1.96 . I am set for port 8000 . If I type in http://192.168.1.96:8000 it accesses my server and spins the little globe on the taskbar . It says it has been hit . After some of the posts I have read I am not sure if I am supposed to be putting in my bellsouth IP address or what . I am getting more confused by the day I think . I ask a friend and he said he couldnt see my page , Im still working at it ! Thanks

OK , I found out it does work now . I just type in my Bellsouth IP in and it goes straight to it without putting in a port number or anything . Thanks for all the info ! I will post again later , I have some more questions , but being new to this forum do I start a new thread or stay on this one ? Thanks

If it's still related to port forwarding or other networking issues, stick to this one, if not, have a look at the section headings for the forum and decide where you think it should go ;)

Glad to hear you got it working.
