I cant goto my site, and I was reading one of your guide and one of the steps were to go into the router and find port fowarding, and there was nothing in my routers config that said port fowarding or even fowarding. |

Apache won't work either , you need the server to be accessed first before any
web server software will work and as for apache , its not so easy to use lol. :) |

its the first one, and I tryed it and I still cant see my site,. I just unpluged the router and pluged it strait into the computer and I still couldent goto my site, another thing is, can I just type in http://xxx.xxx.xx.xxx "x"=IP address on the computer that the server is being hosted on and could I goto my site? or would I have to be on a computer that isent hosting the site and goto that IP, does it matter? |

can you access it using your internal (private, network) IP address?
if you can't you need to check the settings of your firewall.
what OS (operating system), and firewall are you using? _________________ Olly |

SORRY TO INTERUPT BUT THIS IS THE TOPIC I WAS LOOKING FOR...
I MAY HAVE MISUNDERSTOOD BUT IS THE WEB ADDY DIFFERENT FOR OTHER PC'S NOT HOSTING THE SITE? IF SO HOW DO I FIND OUT WHAT THAT ADDY IS.
I HAVE A NETGEAR ROUTER, AND AM RUNNING WINDOWS XP WITH THE FIREWALL DISABLED. I HAVE SET MY SERVER IN THE CONSOLE TO PORT **** AS WELL AS SETTING PORT FORWARDING FOR THE SAME PORT USING THE PC IP FOR THE PC HOSTING. I WENT TO THE FAQ AND FOUND A LIST OF POSSIBLE SUSPECT WHY I COULD NOT VIEW MY SITE FROM MY 2ND PC. DID EVERYTHING IT SAID EXCEPT CALL MY ISP. STILL NO WORKY...HUH?
HELP
[EDIT]
Nevermind Figured it out.. But Right now it show my PC IP the IP # behind my router and the port # as my website addy.... How secure or safe is that? _________________

am i right in assuming you've reconfigured the built in Windows firewall to allow traffic to Abyss on port 80?
if not go here for some basic intrusions: http://www.olly86.co.uk/abyss/xpfirewall.html _________________ Olly |

have you tried a non-standard port, like port 81? as some ISPs block access to port 80.
remember when you do this you need to later the port forwarding settings in your router. _________________ Olly |

I also tryed port 8081, that dident work, I talked with my ISP and they said that I need to have a static IP to run my own server, right now I have dymantec IP address, I can call a number and change it to a static IP for free, should I do this, is this whats causing my problem or is it not causing my problem? |

Since you have a dynamic IP, this just means that every time you connect to the internet, you have a new IP address. You can fix this by getting a www.no-ip.com account, they will automatically update your IP address to a domain name (yourname.no-ip.com), but if you do this, make sure you download their software so that you don't have to constantly go back to their site and update your IP address. If you decide to go with a static IP you won't have to worry about this.
When trying to connect to your server, just make sure the IP you're trying to access is the right one, it should be your IP address given to you by your ISP, not the router. |

Your missing the point, apache has nothing to do with serving up easier, no server would serve up unless you configured your router, that is universal too, no way around that fact either. |
