I've just installed Abyss Webserver. I have a a new broadband isp with static ip address, so far so good.
The way I understand it, if the server is running and my broadband connection is up, access to my website should simply be http://<ip address>
This doesn't seem to work from the internet, but it does work behind my router/firewall. I use a Draytek 2600 is there some config on the router that needs to me done to make my site accessable to the outside world?
Basic qestion I know, but all got to start somewhere :-)
Any advise will be appreciated.. |

Many thanks for the tip. I've actually managed to get this working about 5 minutes ago, by opening the Port and allocating to the local ip address of the computer Abyss is installed on. I opened port 80 for TCP and UDP seems to work, not sure if it's the same as port forwarding as I have a seperate menu option on the Draytek for that.
Thanks for taking the time to help out, if you see anything wrong with what I've done or if theres a better way, would appreciate the advice..
Best Regards

Port Forwarding, that means that the port you open in the router will be forwarded to the machine IP that you specify.
You only need to have TCP as the assigned protocol on port 80.
You have to determine if your IP address is genuine or an ISP assigned proxy address, most ISP's will run a system of proxy servers, you wouldnt know nor would they tell you this specific information as your not required to know this, but if they do, it will stop you from serving up.
The easy soloution to finding out if your IP address is being passed through a proxy, you can goto www.dyndns.org and use their checkip to get your true IP address. If this differs from your IP address, your IP address is being passed through a proxy server. |
