Hello to those of you who are kind enough to actually take the time to read this. Before we get started, I would just like to say one thing: I am immensely new to all of this. I consider myself an amateur, especially when compared to you knowledge people, as I only know a good amount of HTML, and have little experience in creating web sites. So, please, I ask you to take things slowly with me, and if it wouldn't hurt, could you explain to me exactly what I'm doing when you tell me to do it? I have a great interest in this kind of stuff, and I want to be able to figure things out later, without the help of knowledgeable others. Another note before I ask, which will also help you get an idea of my experience in this: I read the thread down a few (Located here.), which has a similar problem, and I wasn't able to figure it out, still.

Well, my problem is exactly what is in the other thread. How can make my page viewable to others? Once again, just speak to me as if I was a four year old that can't even pronounce "internet," and everything should go very well.

and see if they can access it or use a proxy service like this - http://proxify.com to see if you can access it.

If you can't get it to work on your own, these questions can help matters:

What operating system are you running?
Who is your ISP?
Do you use a router? If so, what kind?

Alright, first, I attempted to nquin suggested, and none of that worked, and the FAQ didn't help me.

Secondly -

OS - Windows 2000 (NT)
ISP - Cableone
Router - Netgear and SMC

And finally, I am almost positive that I lack a firewall.

A note... I run through a network at my house, in which all of my family's computers are in one room, and all hooked up through a wired LAN, with the exception of our laptop. We are hooked up through two Routers, one of which (The Netgear one) also has wireless capabilities.

Alright, I know we're making good progress, but it still won't work.

But, it's not. I went into my router configuration, and turned on Port Forwarding to the Service "HTTP" and set my port to 80. I left everything else alone, as I don't want to mess anything up too bad. I then went in to make sure that my Abyss port was set to 80 as well, and it was.

I was looking through the previous tutorial (Which, as I go along, makes more and more sense) and I saw that you came upon the same issue. So, I attempted to alter the beginning and ending ports to 90, but the error said "Default service type/port is not changeable."

Also, I'd like to know if I'm actually going to the correct URL... If my IP address was 24.119.115.23, then would I have to go http://24.119.115.23/ or maybe http://24.119.115.23:80/ ?

http://24.119.115.23 would be the correct address to go to. When you turn on the HTTP service, you're sure that you're pointing it to your correct internal IP, right?

Also, what Zipcode are you in (I need it to visit Cableone's website).

After I switched rooms and discarded one of my routers, I took the advice you all gave me, and now it works!

If I have any more problems, I'll make sure to come back and bug you some more. ^^

I have another question for you who are knowledgeable in these areas.

How could I get my FTP to work? Now, mind you, I am of very limited knowledge in this subject. Basically, all I know about it is that I can edit my files from different computers.

It depends on what FTP server you are using. They all serve the same purpose, but they all have slightly different configurations.

Which one are you using?

Holy cow, I'm trying to do way too much at once for my brain to handle.

Currently, I'm attempting to install this FTP server, and at the same time, I'm also attempting to install some forums on my server, which requires me to install both PHP and MySQL, both of which I know next to nothing about.

I guess I'll get the FTP done first, then get workin' on the boards. But, as of now, I'm really busy with other stuff, so I'll have to get back on this either later tonight, or tomorrow.

Okay guys....

I do the ipconfig thing (I'm running XP) and it says my ip address. Is that my internal or external ip address?

Also the router....in the ipconfig window it says, "Router Enabled.......no". What do I do now???

What is the IP Address it gives you?

If it is 192.168.xxx.xxx, then it is an internal IP. If it is something different, such as 63.203.35.55, then it is an external IP-and you have no router.

It is an external ip then...and i have no router.

Ummm...so how do I host my website so other people may see it?

Ok, well normally, you would just type http://yourip into your browser, and it would work.

If it doesn't, then your ISP is probably blocking port 80. In the Abyss console, change the "Server Port" from 80 to 81. Then, go to http://yourip:81 and you should see the website.
