Hi Everybody and a happy bank holiday to you all.
I have recently installed an Abyss server on my old machine and opened up the port on my linksys router to allow internet activity. I have installed on the machine the following:
Norton antivirus
Zone Alarm(set to medium or nothing works)
Spywareblaster
Can anyone please tell me if I am missing obvious things that i should be doing to prevent a malicious attack.
Thanks in advance for any replies that you may post,
Regards
Tony. |

You are pretty protected.
The only thing I could recomend is to make sure you have everything updated (especially windows update.)
Try running a firewall test:

I use ZoneAlarm Pro (ZAP), so I'm not sure whether this is the same in ZoneAlarm or not, but in case it is and in case you're interested... In ZAP, you can have things working okay by setting the Firewall for the Internet to High and add in that area's Custom section to allow port 80 (or whatever port you're using) to have incoming and outgoing traffic.

Suggestions for troubleshooting:
1. Turn off your firewall and see if it works.
2. Change the port to something like 85, and forward it in your router.
3. Put your computer in the DMZ, and see if it works. (Don't worry Anoymoose)
I am not intending for you to keep any of those settings, but they help narrow down the problem.
EDIT: I also said, that whenever I posted to try DMZ, I would put a link to:

I mentioned your name in the post; yes, that was deliberate...
Why is there a link to Windows Update (for those of you who don't know):
DMZ essentially puts your computer "in front" of the router, completely exposing it to all of the harmful attacks that happen every second. Because Windows is so vulnerable to these attacks, you need to prepare your system for anything that can happen by patching it up with the most recent security fixes. Even exposing your computer for 5 minutes can be dangerous. The lesson is: be prepared for what can happen, and along with disabling NetBIOS shares, patch up your system! _________________ Bienvenidos! |

I meant deliberate spelling my name as Annoy instead of Anony ;) |

Did I miss something? I didn't use too "n's," however now that I think about it, it would have been funny. _________________ Bienvenidos! |
