That isn't true. If you have open NetBIOS shares, and aren't protected in any way, then even a little kid could get into your computer.
It all depends on your security. What kind of security do you have running? Do you have a router? Do you have any other firewall? Do you have open NetBIOS shares? Do you have other easily-exploitable services running? (Such as a non-password protected Remote Desktop Connection or VNC).
It all depends on what people have to attack. Currently, there have been little to no problems with people exploiting or "rooting" Abyss; but there is a first for everything. However, I trust Aprelium... _________________ Bienvenidos! |

NetBIOS Sharing: A Much Simplified Version - If you have a home network, it is a nice feature of Windows to share printers and easily transfer files from one computer to the next. However, if you don't set it up right, people across the world can access your files like anyone else on the network, and print off your printer. (No, I'm not kidding. People can actually send documents to your printer to print; such as threatening death letters).
This is a great feature of Windows if your network is protected.
To check if you have open shares, go to My Computer, or any other Windows folder, and type "\\yourip" without quotes; replace "yourip" with your actual IP address. Find it at www.whatismyip.com if you do not know. If you get the message "Windows cannot access the computer specified" or something similar, then you're probably good.
When it comes to routers, get a software firewall and a hardware router. You should block all incoming connections, execpt those on port 80, or whatever port you use for Abyss. _________________ Bienvenidos! |
