this must sound really dumb, but after reading all the stuff about DNS on the forums here I still don't get it..
1. I've registered a domain name through Lycos.
2. In the Lycos webcenter menu I've turned on Webpointing and entered my IP addy
3. now whenever someone enters the domain name it forwards it to my server but it shows the IP addy instead of the domain name.
Lycos is giving me various options (the webpointing part was the only thing I really understand)
the options:
DNS Manager: using the advanced options I can change the DNS setting (primary server & IP addy, secundary server & IP addy, also 3d and 4th) the 1st, 2nd and 3d servers & IP are already entered (lycos DNS servers)
Webpointing - send domain through to external site (my IP addy is entered here)
- hide your domain in an external site (didn't go for this option)
Zone Manager apparantly I can change some stuff for my domain zone??
Can anyone explain to me how to change it all in such a way that instead of showing the IP in the explorer Address bar I can get it to show the Domain name?? |
