|

Hi,
I'm using Aprelium with no-ip so that I can have a subdomain that points to my server.
I am wondering whether I can configure it so that when my server is offline, an alternate website (say a free website) appears, saying something like "Website offline".
I am thinking I will need a script to test whether my server is online, but will probably need something non-server side... Any ideas?
Or do no-ip or other dynamic DNS systems have a way to help with this?
Thanks! |

The issue here is that you would need to manually change the URL when the server is offline.
No-IP has an offline URL option, though this may only be for domain names that were purchased through No-IP.
Another alternative would be a server situated in between the internet and the actual web server. You'd need two connections to the internet to do this and possibly a DNS server. An automatic solution would not be worth the effort and is not an easy task.
Best practice: Have another computer with Abyss on it that just says the server is offline right now. Make sure it has a manually-set IP address and just change the port forwarding to point to server #2. _________________ Stephen

I beg to differ. The easiest solution is to just let it be offline. They invented error messages for these situations...assuming "Timed Out" is good enough for you. ;) _________________ -Blake | New Server :D
