I am a Perl Programmer and I have used Abyss before to help me test my programs....

I've used Abyss before..no problems...then one day Abyss decides to run really snow. Each page takes about a minute to load....I don't get it. I can't remember if I've updated....but I downloaded the latest version of Abyss and still running real slow.

I have a super high end PC and a very good internet connection so this is not the problem.

Abyss runs slow with everything, whether it is Perl scripts or static pages...everything takes forever.

Any help?

What O/S are you running Abyss on?
How much memory does Abyss take when it's running?
It is slow on the local computer or just when other computers access it?

Windows XP Home
Uses 2mb of memory and 3% of CPU
Does not change when someone access' it - just takes a while to load.

There is no speed limits set.

Try renaming your abyss.conf file and getting abyss to create a new one. Retest it and reply with the results.

Still really slow, typically 0.7kbps. Sometimes when loading a page it decides to stop, so it is very unrealiable.

This is a very unusual problem. Do you have another computer you can try it on? Is it only slow on your outside address or is it slow on localhost (127.0.0.1) as well?

I tried on my other computer (in a local network) and still same problem. It wouldnt have anything to do with the network because ity is very fast and reliable, and also it had worked before with no problem. I tried setting the priority of abyssws to realtime but it still did nothing.

I've added you on msn by the way - but your not online. I think I have spoken to you before on msn a few years back with some issues I had back then, so please make sure I am not blocked - james.andrews89@ntlworld.com.

Any more ideas?

I can't understand why it would affect two computers. Did you try it on the pc running the server with http://127.0.0.1 with the same problem?

Ive added you on msn and Im currently online (for how long I don't know).

james_12345678,

If there are no bandwith limits set, then this is typically related to something on your computer that is throttling the network connection (firewalls or likes).

Could you please give us more information about firewall software that is used on both computers?

It appears his computer was the problem. We think it is related to the firewall and antivirus software as it does not do it on another computer he owns.

I am now about to format my hard drive, and reinstall everything. I think that will fix it. I've been wanting to format my pc for a while now so....Im now gona do it.

I think what was causing the problem has something to do with McAfee Internet Suite 2006. When my Norton 2005 run out, I bought McAfee. But I was getting lots of errors with McAfee, was very buggy, so I got a refund and installed Norton 2006. If the problem still occurs after the format and with norton 2006 installed, than I think it would be safe to say that is what is causing so much lagg.

Thanks for your help - Abyssws is the by far the best web server around.

Hello

The format of my hard drive fixed the problem. Sorry I couldn't diagnose it.

Thanks anyway. :D
