I literally just found out about Abyss this morning and got right on the installation. So far it's been a great experience and I'm currently installing PHP and MySQL right now, however I noticed most if not all of the sites hosted under Abyss we're on a .com or otherwise domain name. Is it possible to let other people onto the server without one? I know for a fact I may buy a domain in the future, however if I could allow others on before doing so it would be nice.

Sorry if this is already answered somewhere, I'm just a little too hyped up to go through the help files :).

Thanks for the support and the great program!

Yes, it is possible. Users can enter your IP-address instead of a domain name.

Also, I think you should check this site out if you want a free subdomain:
www.no-ip.com

Thank you for the help, that's what I was thinking but I couldn't get it to work... but I'll be sure to check that out!

Two more questions though :D, whenever I enter my IP on my own computer, I'm always prompted with a username and password box to which I can't get past. Would that be removed outside of my network? Also, I just wanted to be sure, Abyss automatically forwards your 'htdocs' folder to your IP, right?

And lastly, would other free domain names such as .co.nr and .uni.cc also work with this?

Thanks!

EDIT: I get this error when I hit cancel on the IP login box:

HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Server: NetPort Software 1.1
Content-type: text/html
Expires:0

<HTML><SCRIPT>location.href="userfail.htm";</SCRIPT></HTML>

the answer to this is that is either your router, or your modem, one of them don't support loopback. A quick search should answer how to get around that

Im not sure what you mean by this, but when someone enters your ip address or domain name then the htdocs folder will be the one they are looking at.

Make sure you aren't going to your router's ip

If you are going to like http://192.168.1.1 thats wrong

head over to

http://whatsmyip.net and get your ip address off of the top of that, then put that behind the http://

Your htdocs directory is your main directory yes. That is where you should put like index.html - this can be changed in the console.
