|
|
I have spent hours researching the forum, but still can't figure out why I cannot access my server from outside my LAN. I can access it from within the LAN with no problem, using the external IP address obtained via http://whatismyip.com/. But when i try that same IP address from outside the LAN i timeout.
Router is Netgear WGR614v6. Port forwarding is configured: HTTP service, Port 80, Server IP address 192.168.1.3.
Windows XP firewall is turned off to eliminate that as a possible issue. No other software firewall is being used. I tried turning off the SPI firewall, but that didn't help.
I've tried accessing it from 2 computers outside my LAN.
I'd greatly appreciate any help anyone can give. |

Check that the IP you are getting is not a cloaked IP from your local ISP proxy. Also make sure that your ISP hasnt blocked port 80. You can do this by trying a different port. Dont forget to change the router for the port as well. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

Thanks very much. To try a different port, i followed the help instructions for declaring a new host, used the autodetect button, which offered 1024, so i selected that, which the console then reflected. I also, of course, changed port forwarding in the router to port 1024. It still doesn't work.
Could you tell me how to follow up on your first suggestion, i.e., how do i make sure that the external IP i am getting is not a cloaked IP from my local ISP proxy? The ISP is Verizon DSL.
Let me make clear that i am new to Abyss. I am wondering if there is something else that needs to be configured. I tried creating a User, but that didn't help. I do have a hard drive entered in the Documents Path, and it is the directory for that drive that i get when i access the server via the other computer on the LAN.
Thanks again. |

The easiest way to get your IP is to check the status page in your router. This will give you the WAN IP and this is the one you want.
A lot of ISP's block port 80, 1024 and 8080 so try a different random port. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)
