alright then?..I am an ex pc engineer of the late 80's before the internet was so commonplace (i did do some serial and token ring LAN nets back then).
Anyways I am trying to get back into this game. I think that you can set up with NO-IP.COM and get them to redirect to you on a non standard port ie 8080 or 81, that should work as long as you tell your server to listen on that port.
I have a problem all of my own. I have blueyonder BB, surfboard cablemodem,Mentor FR4II router and 2 PCs.All I get when I use my WAN IP address or my NO-IP.INFO URL is the login screen for the router. I have tried this locally and from canyouseeme.org, aswell as using idserve from grc.com and I get the same result. This is really driving me nuts as I am slightly obsessive about lots of things so this is really consuming me!!..I have read hundreds and hundreds of web pages, posts and tried all manner of things....can anyone hold my paw and guide me through?? (this is my first post here--by the way I think abyss is superb--i've been using it and doing a bit of self teaching on HTTP,HTML etc) |

Most routers do not support accessing your site via your WAN IP from inside your own LAN - this has been explained in detail before, searching the forum for 'loopback' should give you a full explanation.
If external sites are also getting your router login prompt, you should check that you have disabled remote web administration on your router (if applicable) and set up port forwarding on the router to point to the LAN IP of the machine running Abyss - check the sticky topic in this section of the forum for more details or go to portforward.com and look for details of how to do this on your router, if you don't feel like reading the manual. _________________

THANKS GUYS, I understand how mind-numbingly frustrating it must be to repeatedly answer the same question but my eyes were burning from hours and hours of reading from the screen - you were my only hope!!
I will add you to my MSN shortly, thanks. I will check the routers remote admin but I think its off. I will do more checks and see what happens, this router isnt the most staightforward By the way, I tried my WAN IP port 80 at canyouseeme.org and it times out, i'm on blueyonder broadband - any significance?? . One last thing, am I right in saying that you cant have incoming and outgoing traffic on port 80 at the same time?, could the other PC on the lan be tying up port 80 and causing a problem (sorry if thats a stupid question) |
