|
|
I am a former user of Apache (which I didn't like), and have tried Abyss on the advice of a friend who uses it. I have tried to install on windows 2000 and XP, just to ensure the problem was not platform specific. Upon every install, I am getting a page not found error in explorer when trying to configure and run setup.
I have read the walktrough, and followed to the letter on several different attempts. I have also had my (p.c. tech) friend observe the problem with no answers, and has never had the issues himself with the product. I am getting as far as Abyss setting up the config. file, and when it automatically redirect to the web for online setup - error message.....
Has anyone else experienced this symptom, ad if so, what's the fix? _________________ -Gooch- |

You may not have localhost setup in windows. I'm not sure how to do this at my computer is set up for it already. Perhaps someone else can help? _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

Not a localhost issue.
I.E.: command prompt, ping localhost.......results!
This is a much deeper issue than me not setting up an o.s. properly to run a web server. As previously mentioned, I DID have Apache set up and functioning fine. Just didn't like the fact that it only hosted 1 site, and was not very stable on windows platforms.
Anyone else have some help plz?? Getting desperate here, lol. _________________ -Gooch- |

Gooch,
The problem seems to be related to your browser.
Assuming Abyss Web Server has reported in its window no listening error, can you please let us know what are the URLs that do not work?
Have you tried http://127.0.0.1 , http://localhost, http://127.0.0.1:9999, and http://localhost:9999 ?
Is your browser configured to use a proxy? Is so disable proxy use for localhost and 127.0.0.1 and retry.
We'll be waiting for your feedback. _________________ Support Team

Got the problem fixed, but thought i'd post my findings for your research and info.
The last link: http://localhost:9999 worked for me, but all other links didn't. I would always get an error in my browser, no matter whether I used firefox or I.E. I tried to install on 2 different o.s.'s, and seperate machines, and same thing.
Not sure why a local i.p. number wouldn't work, and the localhost solution did? Guess that's something you can look into, and chew on for a bit.
Software seems to run WAY better than Apache, now that I have the server up and running. Thx for the help thus far, and a great product. I will pass along my good experiences to friends. :) _________________ -Gooch- |
