I am installing Abyss web server on an old machine to use as a development server internally on the network. I will only be using it for local hosting of web sites under development.
I normally partition the HDD with a separate /home partition to contain data files. Can I install Abyss in a folder here as this will be the largest partition on the drive or should I install it in /usr/bin. If the latter, can I put the website files in /home?

TIA

mikejd,

Install the server in any directory and on any partition. It doesn't make any difference for Abyss Web Server.
After installing it, you can enter the console and change the Documents Path to point to the directory where your web site files are (any location, doesn't matter). You can also change the location of the log files. Everything is configurable.

The only limitation is that abyssws, abyss.conf and regkey.ser files should be in same directory.

Further to that, I have it installed on a slaved 2.2GB harddisk on this machine. No connection problems beyond the usual fumbling around configuring stuff. Once I got it set up right, it connected to the Web right off the bat.
