When I start up my server automatically via reboot or manually after shutting it down I show two instances of abyssws.exe running in my processes. One is shown at 556k and the other is at 288k. Is this normal to have two? If I try to end either of the processes then the server shuts down so it seems to need both to be working. I only have one locally run website and its only two pages with some shared files.
The server seems to be working fine other than sometimes it crashes and freezes my windows explorer if I try to view the folders inside my htdocs folder. Luckily I don't have to go in there too often but its annoying. Maybe I need to reinstall but I've only been running it a month or so. Suggestions? Thanks! |

A quick search for 'two abyssws.exe' would have revealed this is normal behaviour. It is part of Abyss's anti crash mechanism - one process monitors the other and relaunches in case of a crash.
The server shouldn't have anything to do with Windows Explorer freezing. Do you mean you are browsing your htdocs folder with Explorer while you are running the server, or that you are browsing your htdocs server using IE? Do you have a large number of files in your htdocs? |

My search was for two abyss processes...I guess thats the problem with searches, if you don't put it the right words you don't get the right results.
Anyway, thanks for clearing the two processes up and letting me know its normal.
The freezing happens like this...my server is running on the computer and I use my windows explorer to browse to the htdocs folder. When I open up the index_files is when it will freeze (not always though). I have to control>alt>delete to close explorer and it won't respond. There are only about 40 objects in the folder, mostly images from my weather station that update every 10 minutes with new images automatically from my virtual weather station. The second page of my web doesn't seem to do the freezing but there are only a couple static images there and links to files. |
