|

Hello. I'm using the windows version of Abyss Web Server X1 (v 2.0.0.10 Beta 2). I set the keepalive limit to 3, but my netlimiter software shows 11 connections from one ip. So I guess this keepalive feature isnt working right. I really need to set this limit to 3. I just upgraded from version 1.2, hoping this problem will dissapear. Any suggestions ? Thank you. Great application by the way ! |

"Keep-alive requests" controls the number of requests over the same connection. "Maximum simultaneous request" controls to number of connections that the server can handle at the same time.
So there is nothing wrong with what you get. |

I'm having the same issue as neamtzu.
I have a limitied amount of bandwith for all of my visitors to share.
Some visitors have as many as 20 connections and use an unfair amount of bandwith, which makes other visitors have slow downloads.
Is there anyway I can set limits for the number of connections or bandwith from a single IP address?
My only other recourse is to ban the IP address with a firewall, when all I really want is to give all of my visitors equal bandwith for downloads.
I have a bandwith limiter that can limit the bandwith for each connection to 1K, but with so many connections it's still too much for a single IP at the expense of all others.
Any help would be appreciated. |

Abyss Web Server shouldn't be used to serve very big files , on average my
whole website consumes around 200 KB per user most of the time , its best
to keep everything small and you will do fine using Abyss Web Server.
Note: The reason why you should serve smaller files is because if your
hosting your site from a DSL/Cable line , you need to host small files. |

Thanks for the reply TRUSTpunk.
I've been using Abyss X1 for several months now serving files as large as 700 MB.
That's really the only reason I use it.
I'm thinking about trying the BETA or should I use something else like an FTP server?
I saw an un-official documentation of the BETA version that had an option to limit bandwith of a single IP which is close to what I want to do.
Only I'd like a little more control to where if I had one person downloading that IP could have the full bandwith, if there where two or more they would share bandwith equally up to their limits.
I'm curious as to why you say I shouldn't serve large files over cable/dsl?
About once a week on average I have an issue where my website is no longer available from the internet for any new connections.
The connections that are still going seem to be fine, just can't make any new ones.
I have to change the port #, set my router to use the new port #, and re-boot to make it work properly again.
I have to re-boot because Abyss won't restart unless I do (if there are any connections still downloading).
What I'm really wondering is:
Does this have to do with serving large files with Abyss or does it have something to do with my ISP?
Thanks again for anyone who replies to this post.
This is something that's really bugging me. |

You can eat up bandwidth like a fat guy at an all you can eat buffet. I'd use a FTP server if you just serve up files, it's a lot better that way. FileZilla would be my choice for that. |

When you serve very large files, your visitors will retain some connections open for their downloads for a long time. Increasing the "Simultaneous Number of Connections" in Abyss Web Server could solve this issue (provided that your operating system has enough room or allows a relatively important number of open connections. Some Windows version doesn't allow more than 10 open connections at a time.)
The bandwidth your ISP allocates for you can also be the cause of this problem. _________________ Support Team
