I have the Abyss Web Server installed on my computer. It was a tremendeous help to me as a local server, but I need to go a little further. I would like to go public. I have a No-IP Domain that I would like to use. I am using DSL, and I am not on a router, though I had one installed. Again, just how do I go public with this little server. A small, simple tutorial explaining just the things I need to do with this Abyss Web Server would be helpful. Thanks. |

If you have no router, all you need to do is set the No-IP dynamic IP client to run again so it starts updating your IP correctly and give out your No-IP address to people. To check it's working before doing this, try connecting to your site using only the IP. You should be able to find your public IP here :
www.aprelium.com/ip
If it isn't working, there's a couple of possibilities :
1) Your modem is actually a router / modem combo and you need to forward a port on it for your site to be accessible.
2) Your new ISP blocks port 80 and you need to use a different port
3) You are going through a transparent proxy and the IP reported by Aprelium's checker is wrong. Check the IP using ipconfig/winipcfg instead.
If you don't get any further with this advice, please give details of :
Your OS
Any firewalls in use
Your ISP
The exact model name/number of whatever hardware you are using to connect to your DSL. e.g brand/model no etc |
