Internet speed slows down

I am running Abyss now for more than a year without any problems untill a week or two ago I notist that my internet speed was dramatically low. Normaly is is about 500kByte/s and now it was less than 25kByte/s! I found out, dat as soon as I shut down Abyss, the speed is back to normal, as I restart Abyss, the speed slows down again. I looked at 'start - run -CMD - netstat -s' and with Abyss shutdown and no other programs running, the number of connections is 0, as soon as I start Abyss again, the number of connections increased to some 30! I have no idea wat these connectons are, so I'm stuck. I had shutt down Abyss untill I know what the problem is.
Who can help me?

I'm assuming your OS is XP. Have you recently installed SP2 or changed your firewall configuration?

When you say your "internet speed" slows down, do you mean your uploads or your downloads? Is any logged activity taking place in Abyss when you experience the slowdown - check the logs ?

I don't see how you thought Netstat -s was supposed to help you calculate anything though. You need something that shows you exactly what processes are connecting and to where - either a decent firewall or something like ActivePorts.
