I don't know much about the email part, but check out http://www.no-ip.com. I use them for dynamic dns, and I'm pretty sure they do the email thing your talking about, but I didn't mess with that. _________________ My site and forums |

If you already signed up for a no-ip account, download their automatic update client and follow the instructions to install. |

If you want your own TLD domain (.com), let me just say first, you CAN NOT get one for free. You will have to pay eventually. Read this on how to get one. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

Well Like Anonymoose said, use www.zoneedit.com for your DNS. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

Oh... well... may I ask why?
If you really want to, then it will require:
1. Asprin.
2. A cold pack to help your head from the damage you will be doing to it after you can't get it to work correctly.
3. More asprin.
Setting up a DNS Server on your computer will drive you crazy, mainly because it is so hard to do. First, you will have to download BIND (the only useful DNS server) and configure it on your machine. There is a small GUI application you can use to configure BIND, but that only makes it a little easier. I wasn't even able to start BIND (although I didn't take a lot of time to figure it out anyway).
Unless you have a real reason to use BIND, stick with ZoneEdit. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

You really don't need to host your own domains when it costs you nothing to do it with ZoneEdit and they have reliable nameservers etc. If you host your site and your domains on the same PC, any downtime means you will 'drop off' the net completely. |

Which is why we told you to use ZoneEdit. No offence but if you need to ask about DNS to find out what BIND and realise you need to use it, you haven't got a hope in hell of actually getting it running. Let others do the hard work! |

Yes, I already explained to you about how hard BIND is to configure. So one more time, just use ZoneEdit to configure your DNS.
Now there is a readme.html in the Azura ZIP file that you can read. It is pretty helpful and informative. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

I have to admit that I (total newb) was also desperate to learn to do it ALL myself, but just reading up on BIND was enough to make the screen flicker in front of my eyes ....
If you insist on having your own address, I can recommend http://hn.org to DNS and forward it to a dynamic IP, which had me up and running in about 10 mins. Never heard HN mentioned on this forum, but it works great for me. |

I think ZoneEdit is a lot easier to use than hn.org. With hn.org, it seems you need to create two account records or something--a vanity dynamic dns, and a virtual domain mapping. ZoneEdit only has one account. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

Ah .... that would explain why HN is not mentioned often then !! :)
Ah well, it is all set up now, so I will just leave it be. |
