I would not be writing here if I haven't checked as much as I could in FAQ and here on the forums.
I am using an Actiontec DSL router and Windows XP Professional on my desktop. I configured the port forwarding...I have tried using both 80 and 8080 (and yes when I configured 8080, I configured Abyss as well).
When I enter my IP address, it only brings up my router configuration menu. I tried checking my IP address using an external checker Server Test and it states "port 80 is not open" and when I reconfigure to port 8080, it comes up "port 8080 is not open". I am at a loss! My web site will not post.
Sincerely,

shawn.berg, welcome to the forums.
When port forwarding, did you make sure you put the correct internal IP
the router assigned your PC?
ADDED - What is the model number of your router?

A lot of routers cannot handle loopback - ie you entering your external IP when behind the router - they will either give you the routers configuration page or fail completely to load anything. This applies to any port you use.
Port 8080 is also a known port - usually used for proxy servers - have you tried something more random ? |

O.K., I'm never too proud to say I messed up. I checked and noticed I mistyped the Internal IP address (now configured correctly).
I recehecked my server utilizing the previously mentioned Server Checker and it now says port is open and queries my webpage. Is is true one can not view their own site by simply typing in the IP address in their own browser? My webpage utilizes a frameset design (no lectures plz.-It gives me the presentation I want) and when I "Browse Web Site.." from the tray Icon, It does not fill in the required pages; it just gives me my frameset borders and blank white spaces where the pages should be. I did check...my index.html is located in htdocs, and my paths are correct to the other pages, i.e.c:\program files\abyss web server\htdocs\pages\main.html. Any suggestions on that one as well?
Security question-Are there any security issues I should be concerned about by giving out this IP address as when I type it in, it brings up my router configuration menu. Will it do this for others? |

Question 1: "Is is true one can not view their own site by simply typing in the IP address in their own browser?"
It depends on your router model and make. Some routers (D-Link and Netgear to name a few) do not allow a computer to view another computer on a network when using the external IP. I don't know about Actiontec, so I can't tell you specifically.
Question 2: The Frameset
What is the URL you are putting for the frame URL? Is it "C:\..." or a relative path, such as "/file.html?" You must use relative paths, or else the page will not display correctly.
Question 3: Security
It depends. If the router configuration page is availabe to people outside your network, then yes, there is a very big security risk. The idea here is so your website comes up, not the router configuration. Also, when you host a website, you need to make sure your computer is secure. Download the latest patches from Windows Update, and run a firewall. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

Thank you for all your patience and direction. File paths were not realitive but direct (c:\somepage.html) so I reset all of them to realitive paths, and imagine this, the site works! (THANK-YOU! once again).
Last issue...could someone please check my IP and see if my site displays and let me know if you see my router menu or my web site:

Thank you! I signed up for a .tk domain name and would like to see that it is working as well.... Please let me know:
http://prowebdesigner.tk
Also, did all the frames load? Could I bother you to click on a button or two to verify the .js rollover and the buttons work properly?
I greatly appreciate your help...I normally give more than I ask.
Sincerely,

The Dot TK works, and all the links work (with the rollovers). However, the "Contact" does not load in the frames, it loads in a new page.
'target="_top"' as oppose to the rest, which are 'target="main".' _________________ Bienvenidos! |
