goku112, welcome to the forums.
CHMOD is a Unix/Linux server command function that does not work on Windows.
Generally, just ignore any chmod instructions if your using Windows.
For more info...do a search in this forum for "chmod". |

Hellow People.
I know this must be really annoying..
But:
I have Windows XP and Abyss Web server Running.
I did the "how to add PHP to your ABYSS server" and it works great..
I did several things with PHP so i KNOW that that is not the PROBLEM
Now i tried to install a Chat-page on my server.. The trouble CAME to me.
I KNOW you can't CHMOD on WinXP.
I know that that is not the way.
But the installing script of my Chatbox seems to see that Files are READ-ONLY.
And it says i Need to set the CHMOD to 777.
I was laughing at the silly page.
I already Knew that that was not the case in WindowsXP.
You can't CHMOD.
But.. Somehow my files must be Write Protected..
I Went to my harddrive..
All the files where as open as can be.
Nothing Write Protected.
But then i Turned to the WINDOWS FOLDER in which i had placed the files that the script of the Chat said that where Write-Protected.
I looked at it..
and it didn't say that the folder was write Protected, Neither did it say that is Wasn't
The place where normally is a Checkbox was now a GREYED OUT checkbox.
I clicked on it untill the checkbox was EMPTY.. meaning the folder should not be WRITE PROTECTED.
But to my ashtonishing.. when i clinked on OK .. it didn't work.
I checked the folder permission again.. AGAIN THE STUPID GREYED OUT CHECKBOX...
I clicked, i clicked and i clicked..
But it seems to gray out everytime i trie to set the permissions...
So i went into the admin account of Windows XP
In there i gave Myself rights over that folder..
And while still in the Administrator-MODE i changed the Greyed out cheked checkbox to NONE so there should be no write protection..
Back in windows with my own account..
Poof. permissions Greyed out again...
Please can someone help me out ?
Greatly appreciated ! _________________

Now why do you think that write-protection will fix the problem (and furthermore, what exactly is the problem?)
If you want to perminantly unset Read Only, try unsetting it in safe mode with an Administrator account. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

If you read my message above..
You can see that i infact did go to safe mode and in my admin account.
And changed the rights of the folder..
But Still Nothing..
When i am in windows the checkbox is grayed out again..
--WHY I WANT THE WRITE PROTECTION OFF THE FOLDER ?
Becouse of the chat script (as you could read in my Previous post )
The chat script has an installer..
The installer checks if the folders and files installed have the right permissions
They should have 777 but they dont.
I get a big negative here. The files marked in RED while others pass in GREEN..
It seems that the folders are marked GREEN
And the files are marked in RED
Hmmz cant figure it out..
But the script says so.. the files dont have the rights they need..
And when i Try to procede without setting those rights to 777...
The program doesn't work..
It gives a Whole bunch of errors.
Therefore i just need a way to set those files to the right setting. _________________

Give us a link to this chat script. I'm curious.
Meanwhile, there are plenty of free chats that can be
put on your server without the need for an "installer".

I had no luck installing this script. I had the same problems.
I went to Andy's website and searched the forum for answers.
It seems this script was written exclusively for unix/linux platforms.
One of the moderators said he installed it on Windows w/ Apache,
but had to modify .htaccess to get it to work. Obviously, Abyss
doesn't have that.
Sorry I couldn't help more. Try one from this page:
http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Chat_Scripts/index.html
DO NOT go to EZ Chat homepage. It tried to infest my system with an exploit.
(Thanks to Kaspersky, it didn't) |
