|
|
B4 i ask my question, I want to thank everyone for all the great info and tutorials contributed here...Following the tutorials written and shared on these boards, i have successfully installed Abyss and added PHP, mySql, phpMyAdmin, phpBB, Coppermine Photo Gallery, and a PHP Blog on my Xp Pro OS.....So thnx again for helping open up a whole new adventure that is both exciting and educational...
My question is:
I have been trying to assist a friend with installing the same features i have mentioned above that on mine ....
His OS is Windows 98...Abyss installed and required only a firewall port assignment to begin working..PHP was also successfully installed and is working
mySql installs and gives the green light, however when trying to get phpMyAdmin to become accessible, an error keeps occurring, thus halting the process for changing users and passwords, creating databases and password protecting mySQL thru Abyss...Most of the time he crashes when first attempting to access phpMyAdmin thru the localhost address..
I am confident that the successful steps followed in my installation process were followed on his installation as well...I have attempted to try some, but not all, of the different version combinations of mySql and phpMyAdmin, thinking that there may be some compatibility issues for and particular version combinations..so far, the same results..
My question is, is there a particular combination of versions of mySql phpMyAdmin that should be used for a 98 user or is there anything in particular that is necessary to be done beyond the steps defined in the tutorials posted here in the forum?
TIA
Simon...:-) |

Hi, Simon!
I use 98se in my box, hosting a couple of sites using Abyss. As far as I can remember, I simply followed the tut's on this site and got everything up and running without any problems (including phpMyAdmin and Coppermine - cool Gallery! Having loads of fun playing with it!). I d/l'd the latest available offerings for all the packages you mentioned. |

You should take up my idea on opening a business, then you can be a real professional. :D _________________ Bienvenidos! |

I guess not. There are a couple contradicting definitions. One says you need to be in career, and the other says you have great skill. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

Thanks for the responses you guys....As a result of experiencing crashes that were escalating at a machine gun rate, (nothing to do with the attempted insatallations mentioned above), my friend has put his 98 system to final rest and is in the process of buying a new Xp PC...I think the frustration of not being able to complete the installs contributed to his decision..regardless, he will soon have a new pc and is looking forward to having the complete "Abyss" package up and running very soon..
jmc...Coppermine Photo Gallery is absolutely awesome...I totally agree...
TrustPunk....I am very familiar with your tutorials on the installations and appreciate your time and effort to create them as they aided in my installation and have successfully aided other friends who now have "Abyss" as a result of those "tutes"....I applaud and thank you and all the others who have taken the time to share their knwoledge and skills thus opening the door to the rest of us who are now able to join in in the "Abyss" adventure...
I also want to thank Aprelium ...You have given us an amazing server!!
Thnx again to all..
