What exactly does an error hit means? It tells me that it's when the server responded by an error, but that didn't full explain it to me. Does that mean when someone tried to download from me they couldn't? I'm still confused as to how this system works and how much bandwidth is allowed or whatnot. If someoen can explain the error hits and possibly just how much bandwidth is allowed on the server, I'd appriciate it. Sorry if I sound like a moron, but I'm new to the FTP server. |

Hi wawaftermath--
Abyss webserver is a webserver, not a ftp server. I hope we are on the same page here.
Error hits mean the kind of hits that give you errors, like 404 Page cannot be displayed error, or 500 Internal Server error, etc.
The bandwidth is not limited in Abyss at this point. It is only limited by the speed of your connection.
Regards,

Thanks, so far you've been quite helpful. I have a couple more questions based on your answers, once again, may sound stupid, but I'm curious.
1) Error Hits, basically it means the person was unable to download my file correct?
2) Bandwidth is determined by my connection speed...I'm on Cable Speed, approx. how much bandwidth would that be? |

There are many error causes: wrong file path, connection time out, error in a script, bad request from the client, etc...

Your cable provider can give you this information (there is no general rule). _________________ Support Team

Hello! Is it possible that port scans or other types of packet junk like that add to the numbers in the stats? I had my server running for about an hour when I checked the stats, I had around 450 hits & around 290 errors. I reset it and let it sit another hour, dead silence... Not a single hit in any category. It is up and running just fine.
I'm on a business class cable modem so there might be some extra junk from neighbors. The site is only for a class I'm taking, so the real live intentional hits should be low...

liphunkt,
Yes, port scanners and other worm attacks will result in error hits because Abyss doesn't accept them. See you log/access.log file for a listing of all the requests that the server processed. _________________ Support Team

Also, if you notice the image in my signature, every time someone views it, it counts as a hit. Mainly because when someone views the image, the web browser sends a request to access the image at mywebsite.com/images/the_image_name.gif which Abyss would interpret as a "hit." _________________ Bienvenidos! |
